We were lucky to catch up with Allen Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Allen, thanks for joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Growing up, I had always landed myself in to advanced art classes throughout middle and high school. Lighting, colors and textures came fairly easy to me, or at least made sense due to growing up in an upholstery shop my Grand Mother and Father ran out of her home. I alway joke about how my body chemistry changes when. I walk in to a fabric shop and its so true, my imagination runs wild and i just want to fashion and style people to take phots or direct in film. I didn’t really think of it as could I be successful because I never really compared my ideas or artistic aspect to wha success ” looks” like. Which I think is what people see and what attracts the work I get in and out of my studio.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a very visual person, I could never really read long form books and such to paint a picture when I was growing up. I am a watch and learn sort of artist. I do like reading actual scripts though, because the layout or form in which they’re written is designed to put you right in the scene with mood, tone, lighting, daytime/nighttime, interior/exterior etc. and I can take that and apply it or Direct it for photo, film or lighting scenarios.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I own several businesses, but I never really sat out to be an entrepreneur if Im being honest. I am more of a logistics guy and good at problem solving. I figure out if you can solve peoples problems and make their life easier, they will pay you! Lol So each one of my businesses came from sort of a pivot in career or life due to standing in the face of adversity or identifying other people adversity and stepping in to help logistically and hopefully to help them succeed. I think starting off with low risk, high reward has also help too with diversifying businesses in and keeping them in the same wheel house so to speak which you have to be good at pivoting and responding quickly. They should all sort of compliment each other or at least be a resource for one another in some way, shape or form.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Maintaining my mental health, peace and freedom in a wish fulfillment life is my main motivator I would say. I’ve lived life on other peoples terms before and I’ve experienced moments of misery in hindsight. I’ve learned that I cannot afford to compare myself to others, and that gives me a nice creative space mentally to stay openminded and a willingness to learn without feelings of failure. After all, everything I have ever learned has been by mistake it seems. lol
