We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Allen Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Allen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
“The Least Greatest” is one of the toughest projects I have ever worked on.
My first album (Goliath Must Fall), released in 2015. On the first tour, I felt God doing something in me when I began to truly see that tours weren’t about selling merchandise, but more so leaving an impact on others in a short period of time.
I realized that I was different than most and it made me do some digging in my soul to find my identity,
Five years between this realization (2015-2020) I released 3 more albums and thought that “The Least Greatest” would be my final project, as it felt like I had nothing left to offer.
I poured out on 20 heartfelt songs for this project and touched on topics from a near-death car accident, past relationships, family issues, church issues, mental health, etc.
If you take a look at my discography, you will notice that “The Least Greatest” was NOT my final album, but a launching pad into a more consistent basis of releasing music. God used this album to help me find myself in Him, understanding that in HIS eyes I find my worth, even if I feel the least here in this world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I always loved music from as young as I can remember. I noticed that music was the only thing that seemed to be a connection between people.
Early on, I made myself resolute to get the attention of others, since I felt neglected and misunderstood.
I began writing poetry online from my local public library and submitted to a contest that I placed in, but didn’t win.
That’s when I realized I had something going on, because I was only a kid (around 11 years old) and was being noticed by strangers online.
I began to write rap lyrics and battle online, which proved to be much more of a challenge to develop wordplay skills.
I struggled to deliver what I wrote and after many years of writing, recording, experimenting, I finally found myself in a professional studio in Southern California with RJ Full Range.
My life was still broken behind all the fancy lyrics I wrote and it took the miracle working power of Jesus Christ to forever changed my life.
I decided to make God the focus of my music, which wasn’t well received by many early on.
In this case, I wasn’t worried about getting attention, but putting the spotlight on what God did in my life and wanting others to experience the goodness of Him.
300+ songs & 30+ albums later, I am overwhelmed at how God continues to move through the music, when I felt like throwing in the towel countless times, He would bring strangers to me to share how my music has helped them get closer to God.
I’m just a servant of the King
Preaching sermons over beats.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
From 2015-2017 I did well in merchandise with sales of physical copies of my music.
I wasn’t well prepared in an online presence or understanding the audience for streaming, so it took a number of years to understand the concept of physical albums going out of demand and shifting to digital marketing.
I’ve always been an introvert so posting constantly online still feels weird, but I am starting to grow more comfortable in using online resources to push the message.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s still mind blowing to me.
The fact that God the Creator, created me and allows me to create to pass on messages to others. That’s what this is, there is always a message in the music.
Sometimes I just sit in awe and look at the lyrics or listen to the finished product, no matter how long it’s been since its point of origin, and I can only credit the creator. There’s no way I am smart enough to come up with stuff like this on my own.
