Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Allanté Collier. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Allanté thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
What did Durk say? “And we ain’t goin’ back to being broke no more”
I have the freedom I never imagined as a business owner with the weight of the world on my shoulders. I’ll be completely honest – sometimes I do think about what my life would be like with just a regular job. Weekly at that! Entrepreneurship is hard AF. If you want to eat, you have to hunt. If you want to rest, you have to earn it. If you want the glitz and glamour, you have to endure the ugly process to get there. It’s tough!
The last time I thought about my life with a regular job was last month. I went through a huge breakup and questioned everything. There were so many options in front of me (where to live next, what to do now, the future of my businesses) that the overwhelm paralyzed me. It could all be so simple! So I dreamed of having to answer to someone else again and quickly snapped out of that. It’s nothing wrong with having a job – it’s one of the best silent investors! I’m just too rebellious.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Allanté. A Neo-Soul vibe, Rich Auntie, and God-fearing Goddess who went from engineering to entrepreneurship.
I started in the Industrial Engineering space at the age of 16 – interning for Cisco Systems, Inc. I fell in love that year and never drifted apart! After graduating with my Engineering degree, and Lean Six Sigma certification, I dived into the Project Management space for a mechanical engineering firm in Construction. I’m one of the rare ones who loved her career!
It was the unfulfillment and lack of freedom that became my tipping point. From C-Suite Executives and Entrepreneurs, I gauged which lifestyle I admired most from my mentors and exited corporate in December 2019. 3.5 years later and my career has come full circle with the launch of Streamline & Scale Co. – the leading Operations Management Agency that provides all-in-one backend support to help Online CEOs famine-proof the business to thrive in any season and sustain.
What makes me different? I don’t look like I should be doing what I do! I’m a young, black, female, engineer, and agency owner, managing 6-figure businesses in my late 20s. Challenging the status quo is my life. I’m most proud of leaving corporate and recreating the stability I once had as a now Serial Entrepreneur.
The main takeaway I have for anyone reading this right now is if I can do it, you can too. I went from being an extreme introvert who suffered from social anxiety to conquering all of my fears and doing the unimaginable. I do this for gworls that get it because you’ve been THAT girl! It’s time you wake up and let the world know.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Wealthy people don’t have time.
The wealthiest people I know and admire have plenty of time in their schedule for what refills their cup – intentionally! Whoever created the “booked and busy” narrative has a perspective I tend to challenge. Growing up, I used to think successful people worked around the clock because that what my parents did.
Coming from a broken home, one worked around the clock for survival, and one worked around the clock for a lifestyle maintenance. I’ve seen both the highs and lows of each perspective and naturally became a workaholic achieving great feats until I burned out – one too many times. I used my “busyness” as a defense mechanism to avoid the problems in my personal life. My career was doing so well, until my work obsession almost cost me everything.
Time-Rich CEO isn’t just a cool name – it’s a movement, a statement, the modern-day revolution!
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Build a team based on core values.
As a given, the business you create and run aligns with your personal values, so naturally, the team supporting and running the day-to-day operations should be in alignment as well. Souring, hiring, onboarding, and training that highlights the company’s core values has less turnover and higher ROI. Plus, if you can’t hang with your team outside of work, will you really vibe?
I’ve onboarded seven team members and terminated three during my company’s lifespan. I’ve found the key to our continued success is synergy – fostering an iron-sharpening iron community. This includes your fair share of tough conversations, a whole lot of gratitude, and transparency.
