We recently connected with Allan Winkler and have shared our conversation below.
Allan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I am not even sure what this means, as I’m not sure that I am a professional anything! All I know is that I was raised to make art and make music, and that is what I have been do for my whole life. I mostly support myself by doing other things. But making art has been a way for me to survive emotionally and spiritually and mentally, and by keeping busy in that way, it’s kept me focused, & kept me out of trouble. Creating art is exciting, it’s fun to do….as a kid, I was encouraged to create pictures & scuptures and I just never stopped. I don’t really have a choice. In fact, I would like to stop making things, but I’m having a hard time doing that. Oh well.
Allan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I make paper cut outs, which is really fun. You never know what is going to come out. And I can make high quality prints of my cut out images. I also create collages of people using food boxes so that the people have words and pictures all over them. Just an enjoyable hobby. I like the way they look.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Of course it’s very rewarding that people want to live with my art work, and that my work is in peoples homes all over the world. And it’s very gratifying when people tell me how much they enjoy seeing my art, and they get joy & happiness from viewing my art. That is very rewarding!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
In all honesty, the main goal that drives my creative journey, is just to keep myself sane! It’s a crazy world out there, and I’m just trying to do the best I can, and since we are all unique and one of a kind people, I am just trying to be true to myself and let it come out in my own unique way. Of course I get influenced by the amazing artwork that others create, but I’m trying to be myself.
