We recently connected with ALLAN MUSTERER and have shared our conversation below.
ALLAN, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story behind my mission became evedent to me when at age 60 I was driving in my car to Los Angeles and decided to turn off my radio. In the silence, I was transported back in time to the time I was asked by my Dad to go to my room and get a book for him to read as it was my bed time. I later discovered that I was about 11 months old. My father would read a book of my choice every night before I went to bed. I realized as I remenisced that this was a turning point in my life. I became a voracious reader of a wide range of subjects. That inspired my writing. As I explored my life for weeks afterward, I discovered many such turning points. That got me to create my blog www.lifeturningpoints.org so I could inspire others to connect with their turning points.
ALLAN, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up in an amazing family with extraordinary parents and my brother. I experienced a very unusual childhood due to my mother’s health that required much of me at a very eraly age. I learned to accept challenges and found a way to be very successful in navigating them. The challenges continued for eight decades. I discovered that I lived through countless turning points that changed my life along my journey. I met along the way some teachers and mentors whose character transformed my perspectives and gave me resolve to never be deterred by any challenge no matter how daunting. My education and subsequent professional life were not void of difficulties that I witnessed became the demise of others. I evntually gave birth to an aengineering company with a business partner. I felt the need to share my developed capabilities with others. I started a blog and published a book. I contirbuted to other books as well. In my pursuit to serve others I was introduced to Garden of Innocence where we provide dignified burials for abandoned and unidentified babies. I am currently the president and director of the San Diego Garden of Innocence. I am writing three more books, contiue working with my engineering company and look to new venues to share my life experiences.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The World is Flat by Thomas Firedman and Living Above the Level of Medocrity by Charles Swindoll along with the Bible ae the thre books that shaped my perspectives for business and living a life of service.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I was driving with friends on the way home from a funeral in San Francisco when our car broke down. Three young men stopped to help and gave two of us ride to a restaurant to call a tow truck. It was a cold foggy night on Interstate south of San Fransisco. They pulled a sawed-off shot gun and treatened to kill us of we didn’t have enough money. We didn’t but made a miraculous get away. eventually making it to the restaurant and aleretd the police thuis saving our friends who were left behind. I acted effectively under exsteme duress.
