Aliyah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Growing up Beauty, Fashion, and The beauty of the art has always fascinated me. I can remember in High school wearing a white eye liner everyday and classmates would always ask why are you wearing that lol….. To see my growth from then to now is truly amazing. I have put my heart and soul into my craft. Making women fell beautiful bringing out that inner diva is such a joy to me. My mission to make every person that sit in my chair feel like they are the most beautiful person in the world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Aliyah Douglas and I’m the owner of Aliyah Douglas Makeup Artistry here in Houston Texas. I got started into the beauty industry in 2013 when i moved to Houston Texas from Atlanta Georgia. I used to do my makeup everyday for work and so many women were very fascinated with my makeup and would ask me to do theirs. So one day i decide to step out on faith and start practicing on other people. I read books and a lot of trial and error lol. The feeling i got when i saw their confidence shined when i did their make up made my heart smile. The way i would get excited to Glam a person made me realize that this was my passion. Now fast forward to Today I’m a very established artist who specialize in Glam, Bridal, photoshoot, and commercial/TV.
I think the hardest thing i learned in this industry is being patient. It’s so much to learn and you have to be patient and give yourself time to actual master whatever skill your trying to learn.
I know when my clients come to me they are coming for an experience and to feel even more beautiful.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One of the biggest lesson i had to unlearn was comparing my work to other artist. Never compare your journey to anyone. What’s for you will be for you and NOTHING will stop that. Keep your eye on your goals

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

To build that clientele you have to be consistent and you have to put your work out there. Don’t be afraid to showcase your work. You never know who is watching you.
