We recently connected with Alivia Gilyard and have shared our conversation below.
Alivia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Although being a business owner has its moments of ups and downs, I would never choose to look back at working a traditional 9-5 and heres why:
I’ve worked in marketing/customer service for more than 5 years. I feel no Job could ever appreciate and value my time the way I will. Working,
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Patience and discipline is key in candle making, as it is a process that requires time, focus and attention to detail. Rushing through any step can lead to mistakes , I’ve learned to be patient over time because it truly pays off. Be Dedicated to the thing that makes you happy, it’ll make the journey a tad bit easier.
Times wont always be easy, there will be lots of mistakes, disappointments and other obstacles during whatever your journey may be. This is where your dedication matters most, Allow yourself to remember why you started, and those mishaps will turn from disappointments to learning moments.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Growing up, I watched my parents work tirelessly to provide for our family. They worked long hours and sometimes multiple jobs, but they never complained. They always put their best foot forward and did whatever it took to make ends meet. Seeing their work ethic and determination made me realize the value of hard work. They were faced with many different obstacles but remained resilient and stayed focused.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I worked a 9-5 job, and from those earning I started stocking with everything I needed to started. Once the process started and candles started to sale it required more money, I started asking friends and family for donations. I thankful for my community of people that helps keep me going. I am now interested in angel investors to help stock a large quantity of products so that I could focus on marketing, and expanding my brand rather than focusing on inventory,
