We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alistar . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alistar below.
Alistar, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Risk taking is essential to the wellbeing and growth of any individual with a dream. Whenever you take risks in life, you’re essentially opening an invisible door that shapes you and delivers you closer to where you want to be. When I was 18, just out of high school, I took a risk to move to Los Angeles on my own to pursue my dreams. That initial risk backed by faith in my purpose introduced me to countless new people, opportunities, and experiences that I would have never had, if I lived a more comfortable life staying put in Seattle. Every successor that has ever achieved greatness did so through taking risks, and going after what they wanted despite all odds.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In 2020 I reached what many may consider a lowest point through which I experienced a lot of which I wasn’t prepared for at 19. Through those trials and tribulations birthed my passion for creating music and seeking wisdom. I began to study the music business more while creating and releasing songs that reflected the type of life I wished to live. Meanwhile, I dove into books seeking the guidance of philosophers and great visionaries. Through my quest for wisdom, learning more about the principalities that balance the world, every book I read pointed towards the teachings of the bible. I grew up bouncing between being atheist or agnostic as I never liked the idea of religion, but these new found truths compelled me. On my own, I began reading scripture and got to a point where I knew for a definite fact, that I wanted to follow Jesus Christ. That decision alone has ultimately changed my life for the better and adjusted my trajectory straight up. While once aimlessly seeking to fit into the world and acquire what I desired, I found a stronger purpose backed by God himself. From creating hiphop music, I’m now focused on creating christian rap, which compliments the sounds of modern day hiphop, but uplifts and brings positive value. Everything in my life has become clearer, brighter, and better, all because I decided to give my life to God!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that you can succeed and be successful on your own. I used to watch many videos about manifestation and how you can think your desires into existence, which ultimately fixated my ego on “I can do it my way”. However, while it is detrimental that you continue to believe in the life you want, no growth is possible alone. In fact, you’ll find that when you work with a team or have a community of likeminded people in your life, that is the foundation in which your plans truly come to form. I’ve said this many times and I’ll continue to say it; my life shifted from ordinary into extraordinary when I brought God into my life. At the bare minimum, he answered my prayers to have the work I want, the community I so longed for, and the health I needed both mentally and physically. In all, you need good people around you to thrive, because life is not meant to be done alone.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
If you continue to live a life that’s not in Gods will for you, unfortunately you will continue to feel unfulfilled as if the last puzzle piece was missing from you. What I mean by that is that so many people live their lives working a job they don’t like, buying things they don’t need, and ultimately aren’t happy with where they are. However, if you begin to focus on your God given gifts, whether you love to sing, cut hair, or mow the lawn, you will flourish and find success in that purpose. Many people may view the life I live as luck or chance, but the truth of the matter is, when you have undeniable faith in a dream and you take action without quitting, it will happen. The undesirable route is filled with thorns and fallen trees, where the path to glory is filled with peace and success. The path to a better life is filled with more obstacles and trials, but ultimately leads to everlasting peace!
