We recently connected with Alison Smith Martin and have shared our conversation below.

Alison, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

Animal Soul Connection was created not only by me, but in co-creation with my animal family, living and in spirit. I know they were by my side, cheering me on and supporting me. I had been working with people and their animals for over 20 years at the time Animal Soul Connection was born into existence. I owned a thriving pet sitting business but was frankly getting tired of working seven days a week and every holiday. I was aware of animal communication and knew in my heart that is what I wanted to do.

But, the universe had other plans and it took several years before I could realize my dream of studying animal communication professionally. I just seemed to never have the time because I was so busy with my pet sitting business. One October afternoon I stepped off our front deck to give my soulmate dog Andy a bite of my apple as were were enjoying the beautiful day. I completely blew out my right ankle with a severe sprain and a few fractures.

So, I thought, this was the sign from the Universe I had been waiting for! Since I was not able to pet sit, or do anything, this was the ideal time to dive into learning animal communication. More perfect timing as one of the teachers I wanted to study with had a class beginning at the same time. Synchronicity!

I gained professional certifications and continued on to become a certified Animal Communication Instructor. Because of my 20 years of working with animals and a strong holistic background with homeopathy, essential oils, flower essences and more, I was ready to launch Animal Soul Connection. The name definitely came from my animal guides as it simply popped into my head one day and felt completely at home in my heart and soul.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

For over 25 years, I’ve been helping pets and their people live their best lives together by combining Animal Communication, Energy Therapy and Holistic Care modalities to create a mind, body, spirit foundation to caring for your animal companions. ​I also offer a unique pet loss grief program called Peaceful Hearts Pet Loss where we embrace a gentle approach to compassionately allow this grief to move through your body and make space for transformation and peace.

Teaching is a passion of mine and I created a revolutionary Animal Communication Mentor Program where I guide students on their animal communication journey one-on-one. I offer workshops and classes on holistic care as well, as I believe we all have the power to take charge of our pet’s health.

When we work together, I take you by the hand and guide you to find the solutions you’ve been looking for. You’ll discover peace of mind, clarity and confidence. Your animal friends will feel better and be happier, and you’ll discover a much deeper relationship with them than you thought possible.

My life has revolved around animals since I can remember! I fell in love with horses when I was four, only played with stuffed animals when I was little (no dolls for me please) and wanted to make friends with pretty much every animal I saw. I now know it was my destiny to give my heart to animals professionally too. I took a detour through a broadcasting career first and then made the leap into following my passion, now over 25 years ago.

I’m constantly learning new aspects of my work, adding and refining my services and teaching other animal lovers so much of what I’ve learned over the years. One part of my business that I’m especially proud of is how many clients from all over the world have become like family to me. I love to help people help their pets be as happy as they can be…there really is nothing better!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I approach my work with a deep reverence for the animals I’m working with. To me, it’s a sacred time together whether I’m offering an animal communication session, energy healing or any other modality. Often it’s the first time the animal has been truly heard and understood in their language of telepathy and energy and I find it can bring about amazing transformations, not only for the animal I’m working with, but for their person as well.

In an animal communication session, I work with the person and animal together, rather than connect with the animal on my own and then follow up with the client, This allows for a deeper connection between the client and their animal companion. It is an actual conversation that I’m facilitating. This is a very important part of my work, brining the person and their animal together in a way they have not experienced before.

I believe my clients can feel my love and respect for their animal family members and are happy to refer their friends and family so that other animals can benefit. Many of my clients from all over the world have become like family to me and it touches my heart deeply.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I found that studying animal communication and various energy therapies is a completely new way of learning. Instead of the way most of us have been taught when we were in school that the harder we tried, the more we studied, the better grades we received, then we were learning something. In my world, as I developed my intuitive and healing abilities, I encountered an entirely different way of learning ~ to be open to receiving, letting go of the demands on ourselves, trust and relax is the way to develop and learn. It’s so refreshing!

Anyone who has the desire in their heart, an open and willing mind, can learn to communicate with animals. We all have the natural ability to develop our intuition. This is why I absolutely love teaching animal communication to other animal lovers. It opens up and entirely new world for them.
