We were lucky to catch up with Alison Lopez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alison, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Yes, my work is deeply focused on helping underserved communities, especially within the rehabilitation and recovery spaces. In addition to guiding healing groups for individuals overcoming substance abuse and mental health challenges, I also work closely with rehab programs that provide holistic support and alternative therapies to promote sustained recovery. During my time in this field, I’ve noticed a major gap in services specifically for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals who need support in rehabilitation settings. This population faces unique challenges: traditional verbal therapy, group counseling, and even instructions in recovery spaces are often inaccessible or lack ASL-proficient professionals who can communicate effectively with them.
Realizing this, I felt compelled to work on creating something dedicated to Deaf and mute communities, who deserve access to the same transformative recovery opportunities. We’re in the early stages of developing a specialized nonprofit rehab facility that will provide not only a language-accessible environment through ASL-fluent staff but also a space where Deaf individuals feel fully supported in their healing. I believe offering programs tailored to their needs can help bridge this gap, providing a level of care that is currently missing in mainstream rehabilitation services.
Through this endeavor, I hope to honor their unique experiences and make lasting strides in accessibility. Providing safe, language-accessible spaces for recovery and support matters because everyone, regardless of ability or background, deserves to find healing and community in their recovery journey.

Alison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who are just getting to know me, I’m Alison Lopez, a Reiki Master and sound healing practitioner with a background in holistic wellness, mental health support, and rehabilitation. My path into this field grew from a personal and professional journey. As I witnessed firsthand the profound impact holistic practices can have on healing and recovery, I knew that my purpose was to guide others through these transformative experiences. My brand, Serenity Oasis, offers personalized Reiki sessions, immersive sound baths, women’s circles, and both virtual and in-person Reiki certifications, all tailored to support personal growth and well-being.
What makes Serenity Oasis stand out is its focus on the mind-body-spirit connection, using alternative methods like sound baths and energy healing to provide a safe space for people to explore their healing journeys. I work with individuals from all walks of life, including those navigating substance recovery, trauma, and mental health challenges. I’m especially proud of my work within rehabilitation groups where my offerings allow participants to heal from within, reconnecting with themselves in ways that conventional therapy may not reach. Recently, I’ve started working on an exciting new project to provide rehabilitation and wellness programs accessible to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Recognizing a gap in accessible healing services, I’m creating a nonprofit rehab facility that offers specialized support with ASL-fluent mentors, practitioners, and unique offerings for those who need a space that honors their language and experience.
I believe in the power of accessibility and community in wellness, and I’m most passionate about supporting people through both the light and the challenges they encounter on their paths. My goal is to continue expanding wellness services to make them inclusive and approachable to everyone. Whether it’s through a relaxing sound bath, a Reiki session, or certification training, Serenity Oasis exists to bring peace, balance, and deep healing to everyone it touches.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my most transformative marketing moves was deciding to hire a social media and marketing professional to support my business. For a long time, I managed every aspect of Serenity Oasis on my own, including all social media and outreach. I’d always been cautious about bringing someone else into this personal side of my business, and honestly, the idea of handing off something so close to me felt risky. But I also knew that if I wanted to keep growing, both in my professional life and my personal healing journey, I needed to let go and trust someone else to carry part of the load.
Taking that step has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. With the right marketer, I’ve not only been able to reach more people than I could have alone, but I’ve also been able to reclaim valuable time and energy to focus on what I love: working directly with my clients. Now, I can offer even more value to my sessions and group events, knowing that my online presence is being looked after with the same care and commitment I would give it. The growth has been incredible, but more than that, the peace of mind has been priceless. It taught me a valuable lesson about trust and letting others help me build the vision I have for Serenity Oasis.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Yes, my business, Serenity Oasis, has developed multiple complementary revenue streams to meet a range of healing needs for my clients. I offer one-on-one sessions for people seeking personalized reiki, sound healing, or meditation guidance, allowing me to connect deeply with each individual’s unique goals and healing journey. Beyond private sessions, I work with rehabilitation groups and recovery houses where I lead sound baths and reiki sessions as part of their recovery journey, which has been incredibly impactful.
For those looking to learn and grow in the practice of reiki, I also offer certification trainings in Reiki Levels I and II. These sessions have become a way to both empower others with healing skills and give them the tools to create additional income streams for themselves. My community gathering circles are another avenue, providing a space where people come together to connect, share, and heal as a group through sound baths, journaling, and other wellness activities.
In the near future, I’m also launching a nonprofit rehabilitation house aimed specifically at providing accessible support to the deaf and mute community, with a focus on ASL-based guidance. My hope is to continue expanding Serenity Oasis into a safe, inclusive space where healing can flourish for all, no matter the medium.
