Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alison Kaplan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alison, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I had a hard time coming up with a solid, catchy name. I finally took it back to my high school days of making a list of words that describe me and my business. Mom and Baker were the first 2 on my list and after reading through, it just clicked. Mom the Baker was born!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a home baker. I bake custom cookies, cakes, macarons and more, for any occasion. I love adding sweetness to my customers’ events! I started Mom the Baker 4 years ago, actually selling sugar free desserts. I was asked to make regular decorated sugar cookies for a friend, so I taught myself how to make icing, and decorate. My business has snowballed from there!
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started by just posting my pictures of my baked goods, then my customers started to post their reviews. I have used Facebook groups and Instagram to keep sharing my work, and creating a community.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
To start, I was never afraid to share my love for baking. I have been consistently posting in my own Facebook group and Instagram page. My customers have been wonderful at sharing their reviews and referring me to others.
