We recently connected with Alison Gardner and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alison thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Hands down, it’s been my team.
When I founded Perspektiiv in Colorado, I was doing what most creative founders do in the early days. Running every discovery call, designing every logo, writing every proposal, managing every project. It worked for a while. But I started to notice that the parts of the work I loved most, the strategy, the creative direction, the close client relationships, were the first to get squeezed when I was stretched too thin. Something had to change if Perspektiiv was going to be the kind of studio I knew it could become.
Hiring my first designer felt like a leap. Building out a full team felt like jumping off a cliff. The financial investment was real, and so was the time it took to onboard, train, and genuinely trust someone with work that carries my name. What I’ve learned, though, is that a team you trust doesn’t subtract from your creative vision. It multiplies it.
Today, Perspektiiv is a boutique branding and design studio based in Denver, Colorado, where we were founded, with a longstanding client base in Portland, Oregon and across the country. I lead as Creative Director, and my team carries that vision into every corner of the work: brand identity, web design, packaging, and graphic design alike. It’s what allows us to take on bigger, more ambitious engagements, to slow down enough to do real strategy, and to deliver the kind of attentive client experience that simply isn’t possible as a team of one.
The biggest lesson I’ve taken from it is that investing in people isn’t an expense. It’s the engine. My team is the reason I get to be present for my four-year-old in the afternoons. They’re the reason a hospitality brand, a wellness practitioner, and a CPG founder can each feel like they have our full creative attention. None of what we’ve grown into, in Denver, in Portland, or beyond, would exist without them.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m Alison, the founder and Creative Director of Perspektiiv Design Co., a boutique branding and design studio based in Denver, Colorado. The name is Estonian, a quiet nod to my heritage and to the lens we bring to every project: a fresh perspective, intentionally chosen. I started Perspektiiv because I wanted to build something that treated design the way I always believed it deserved to be treated. As a strategic act of communication, not a deliverable to check off a list.
My path into the industry wasn’t linear. I came up without a roadmap, learning the business of being a creative one client, one project, one small win at a time. What kept me going was the realization that the work I cared about most was always the work where strategy, story, and visual craft showed up together. That intersection became Perspektiiv.
Today, we offer brand identity design (logo design and full visual identity systems), brand strategy, brand voice, web design, packaging design, graphic design, and copywriting. Our clients range from solo practitioners like nutritionists, yoga studios, and therapists, to food and beverage brands including restaurants, coffee shops, and CPG companies, to cannabis and wellness brands, nonprofits, and established businesses with real budgets who value creative expertise. We’re proud to call Denver home and to have a longstanding client base in Portland, Oregon and across the country.
The problem we solve is one most founders feel before they can name it. Their business has outgrown its brand. The visuals don’t match the vision, the website isn’t converting, the messaging feels close but not quite right. We come in as creative partners, not order-takers, to build the strategic and visual foundation a business needs to show up with intention, consistency, and real confidence.
What sets us apart, especially in this moment, is our humanity. In an industry increasingly shaped by AI tools and templated solutions, we lead with intuition, lived experience, and genuine strategic thinking. I’m a deeply intuitive listener, and that gift sits at the center of how we work with clients. We listen for what isn’t being said, and we design from there.
The thing I’m most proud of is my team. Building Perspektiiv into a studio with creative talent I trust completely has been the most meaningful work of my career. It’s what allows us to take on bigger, more ambitious projects without ever losing the boutique experience our clients come to us for. It’s also what allows me to be present for my four-year-old in the afternoons, which matters to me as much as any revenue milestone.
What I want potential clients to know is simple. We don’t take on work we can’t pour ourselves into. Every brand we build is built with care, intention, and a true belief in what the founder is creating. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to, and it’s the reason our clients stay with us long after their identity launches.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, and it’s the throughline of everything I do.
My mission is to make design feel like the strategic, transformational investment it actually is. For too long, branding has been treated as decoration: a logo, a color palette, something to make a business look the part. I believe design is a form of communication. Done with intention, it can shift how a founder sees their own business, how their clients experience them, and how confidently they show up in the world.
Every brand we build at Perspektiiv is built with that conviction. We’re not interested in surface-level work. We want to create artistic, strategic foundations that purpose-driven businesses can scale from for years to come.
The deeper goal underneath that is about the people doing the work. I want to build a studio that proves you can run a creative business with intention and ease, where the team is cared for, the clients are genuinely served, and the founder gets to be present for the life she’s building outside of work too. As a mother to a four-year-old, that matters to me personally. As someone who came up in this industry without a roadmap, it matters to me professionally. The creative industry can be more sustainable than it’s often made to feel, and Perspektiiv is part of how I want to prove that.
If our work helps a founder feel more aligned with their business, and helps the next generation of creatives believe they can build something honest and lasting, that’s the mission.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, it comes down to the work and the way we treat people. From the very beginning, I made a decision that Perspektiiv would never operate like a transactional design shop. Every client we take on is someone we genuinely want to partner with. We listen closely, we ask the questions other studios don’t think to ask, and we treat each project as if the business depends on it, because it does. That level of care is something clients feel, and it’s what they tell their friends about long after the project wraps. The other piece is the work itself. We’ve held ourselves to a high creative standard from day one. Boutique, elevated, intentional. Whether we’re designing a logo for a solo practitioner or a full identity system and packaging suite for an established brand, the craft has to be there. Our portfolio has done a lot of the talking on our behalf, and most of our clients come through referrals or have been quietly following our work for a while before they reach out.I’d also point to consistency. Showing up in the same warm, grounded, professional way across every touchpoint, whether that’s a discovery call, an Instagram post, or a final brand presentation, has built a kind of trust that’s hard to manufacture. People know what to expect from us, and they know we’ll deliver. And finally, my team. Building Perspektiiv into a studio with creative talent I trust completely is what’s allowed our reputation to scale. It’s no longer just my work that represents the brand. It’s the collective craft and care of a group of people who hold the same standards I do. That’s the thing I’m most proud of, and I think it’s part of why our clients keep coming back.
