We were lucky to catch up with Alison Avayu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alison thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
After years of barely surviving the early years of raising 2 boys, 23 months apart while working from home as a health coach – one day it dawned on me that my purpose was far greater than simply helping people feel better physically. My purpose was to help other moms have access to all the tools and tips I wish I would have had; my purpose was to lift up and help moms THRIVE, not just survive the beautiful yet chaotic transition into motherhood.
The epiphany came during a 45 minute meditation at a reiki circle that a mama friend was hosting, shout out to the incredible Rebecca Schaffer! It landed and was such an AH-HA moment! I am truly grateful she created that space and time for me to finally get my answer as I had been discerning for a few months what my “calling” truly was.
While I absolutely love health coaching and think that it is critical for everyone’s overall wellbeing, especially for mothers, being able to help moms in ALL aspects of their health (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and financial) lights my soul on fire!
Mothers in our society are struggling. We are crying out for support and sadly our society is not set up to offer it. There are no rituals or cultural traditions honoring that incredible transformation from a maiden to a mother. Most families live away from other family members that could/would help them. Financially families are strapped and forced to either work multiple jobs or other sacrifices just to make ends meet. We are not setting up the next generation for success at all!
That is why I am excited about my mission to help inspire, empower and equip moms with the tools they need to THRIVE, so that it can trickle down to the next generation and we can truly create a better world for our children.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
As a health coach for the last 5 years (and life long health and fitness junkie), I help people transform their overall health so they feel better from the inside out. I support them in finding the right whole food nutrition to fill the gaps and to find a meal plan style that fits THEIR needs, goals and lifestyle. My go to phrase is “scrunchy” – I am a crunchy natural mama who also loves pizza, wine, chocolate and tacos! I believe everyone has the right to find their own way to be “healthy”.
This work is incorporated into my new company “Motherhood Elevated” which is an online resource for moms to have access to tips and tools for all aspects of their health (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and financial). This resource is geared at giving moms easy access to DIY options as well as connections with experts in each area should they decide they need more in depth 1 to 1 support.
Many moms in our society are short on time and energy to really THRIVE. We are run down, overwhelmed and have little support to barely survive all the demands of motherhood, work, life, etc. Motherhood Elevated was created to give moms easy and quick access to simple steps and tips that they can learn and implement quickly so they can start to see and feel the change in their life, and maybe, just maybe reconnect with their purpose so they feel FULFILLED in all areas of their life.
On my instagram page (@alisonavayu) I share tons of valuable tips and tricks to managing the chaos that is being a working mother in our world today. There is no sugar coating, I keep it real, raw and relatable because women need to SUPPORT and encourage one another.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
My money mindset. Like many people, I was raised on the stories from the Bible about how “riches” won’t get you into heaven. I was raised to believe that money was the root of all evil, to be happy that we have “enough” and not want/wish for more.
This was a doozy to overcome, something I continually work on! So many of us have deeply ingrained beliefs about money; most don’t even realize it! Some of these beliefs are generations old and will continue to hold us back until we become aware of them and release them.
It is always a work in progress when you are releasing old limiting beliefs, but it is a journey I am incredibly grateful for. It is also a reason I have included so many resources for money mindset work into Motherhood Elevated.
When we open up our mind, body and soul to the LIMITLESS potential that we have, imagine the world we could live in! Think about how that will impact our children and even generations to come.
Fun fact – when you heal and reframe generational beliefs you are healing it for 7 generations into the future!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
This is simple – mindset. Just like Henry Ford said – “whether you think you can or you can’t, you are right.”
This goes for any field – not just the one I have chosen.
Our mindset directs our life. What we focus on is what we create.
Being able to be aware of our thoughts and actions as well as taking the steps to shift them when needed is key to overall success.
You can have all the knowledge in your field, but if you have limiting beliefs holding you back, there will always be a limit to your success.
Once you clear those limiting beliefs and have the right mindset, your true LIMITLESS potential will be released!
