We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alisha Ward. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alisha below.
Alisha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
I graduated from the University of West Georgia with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Criminology. For a good minute I thought the path I chose in college was a waste and that I should’ve gone to school for theatre.
I started pursuing my acting career in 2018. I didn’t realize until maybe 2019, even though I didn’t go to school for theatre, what I chose to focus on in college actually benefited my acting.
As actors we’re taught not to judge our characters. Every character has a backstory that explains why that character has become who they are. Sociology helps me tap into my character to find the smallest things that could make my character tick or happy, and even think the way they do.
College was definitely a good investment for my career. That just goes to show that God does everything for a reason.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started acting in 2018 in the mist of me modeling. I had a friend that recommended being on set as an actor. The cool thing is when I think about my life, I was always somehow in the circle of acting without really knowing.
I truly enjoy acting and I look at it as therapy. I hope that In my work I can heal someone or even just get them to escape from life even if it’s just for a second. I hope my acting teaches as well. I truly enjoy acting and taping into these characters. I want people to be able to see the work that I put in to bring these characters to life.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I really love this question! The number one thing that’s rewarding to me is the support and reaction of family, friends, and people in general, when they view a character that I played. I love how they get so invested to the point where they’ll ask so many questions about the project or my character. I love how people have come to me and said how they can relate to my character. When I see people get so invested to where it can alter their moods while watching, that’s when I know the work I put is paying off.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Wow, I would say my full journey now. Of course I would love to be a full time actor, but although I’m working for that to happen now, it’s not my time yet.
I currently have a total of three jobs that I’m working at other than acting. I’m a personal assistant, nanny, and I work at a restaurant. I honestly love being a nanny and a personal assistant, it’s the restaurant job that tends to take a toll on me. I’m always forever grateful that I have income coming in from the restaurant job and on top of that the amazing people at AFM that work with my schedule, but I definitely can’t wait until the day I won’t need to work their anymore lol. Your girl gets drained, okay!
Some days I do get a little discouraged, but that’s why it’s important to have a tribe around. I have people that remind me that God has me and my time is coming.
I want to drop this on y’all, Hebrew 11:1. I get how when we want things in life and it doesn’t happen now it can be frustrating. Sometimes seeing the light at the end of the tunnel seems so far away, but don’t give up. In the words of my mother, “would you rather have microwave success or oven success”? Well let me tell y’all this as a country girl, food always taste better when it cooked slowly in the oven. We got this y’all, don’t give up!
