We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alisha Harmon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alisha , thanks for joining us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
I received my first dollar very early on in my career. When I first decided to start my hairstyling career, I knew it would be a tough climb up the ladder. I made a post on my instagram asking for 3 models to practice on and they only had to cover the cost of extension hair. Once I received the money, I went & bought the hair. This way I was able to make posts and advertise my craft. Since then, I’ve never looked back.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello everyone! My name is Alisha Harmon, and I am an 18-year-old certified Natural Hair Care Specialist. Growing up with an abundance of siblings, I’ve always had a passion for doing hair. In the summer of 2023, I decided to pursue this passion professionally by taking on clients. At 17, I enrolled in CPCC Natural Hair Care School in January 2024 and successfully graduated from both CPCC and Mallard Creek High School by age 18.
Currently, I create YouTube and Instagram videos where I share my journey through school, working with clients, and navigating life’s challenges. It has been a true blessing to do what I love and share my passion with clients through protective styles and natural hair care products.
As I gained expertise in natural hair care and started seeing clients daily, I felt inspired to create non-toxic, all-organic products for use in my shop and to share with my clients, addressing various hair issues.
I am deeply committed to providing top-quality service, both in and out of the salon, and to connecting with others through the art of hair care.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by being transparent and consistently showing up. People appreciate authenticity, and if you continue to post quality content your videos will perform well. My advice is to keep going and believe in yourself!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The particular goal driving my creative journey is the idea of my higher self. My creative journey is driven by the life that I desire and the person I aspire to be.
