We were lucky to catch up with Alisen Boddy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alisen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
The road to where we are now has been bumpy but so worth it. Evolving the business from what started as a hobby to the thriving business it is today has been challenging. I personally have had to battle through a couple of work related injuries while also shaping and executing on the vision for our business.
Alisen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always had a passion and eye for design. In 2019 I took on an ambitious project in our home to convert a built in architectural niche (think 1990’s Arizona style!) into something that would better fit the decor of home, After a lot of blood, sweat and tears (quite literally!) the project was complete and ended up being the spark that created what was known as Wooden Knot and Home and is now Wooden Knot and Cloth. What started as a hobby in my garage has blossomed into a thriving business. We have two full time employees, Jim and Tony who do most of the building and painting while we focus on estimating, designing and installing. We do a lot of built in entertainment centers, desks, kitchen tables, shelving and geometric wall designs.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’ve been inspired by Marcus Lemonis (Entrepreneur/CEO of Good Sam and Camping World), we used to watch his show as a family and he always talked about the importance of the “3 Ps” in business. People, Product and Process. In order to realize your full potential in business, it’s critical to be intentional in all three of these areas. I have put a lot of time and energy into ensuring that we hire quality people that believe as much in our vision as we do and thankfully we’ve been very lucky to have a team that takes so much pride in their work and have developed an ownership mindset. Our product is high quality, we refuse to cut corners. Our customers trust us with designing and installing what are often the centerpieces of their homes, we don’t take this responsibility lightly. Process is probably the most overlooked of the three, but is incredibly important especially as we scale our business. This is the area we’ve recently spent the most time focused on. Our business is growing fast and we believe that establishing processes that will allow us to continue to scale in the future is so important. This is the area that is probably the least “fun” but without it, we don’t think we’ll be able to continue to grow successfully.
