We were lucky to catch up with Alise Armour recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alise , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
When I first moved to LA in 2013, I was lucky enough to land a job at an audio post production studio as a client service representative. Little did I know that this job would teach me so much about working with celebrity talent and the top post production studios in the country. However, what really resonated with me was the importance of post production on all levels, especially when it came to audio. The production mixer is a crucial part of the process, and if they haven’t done their job well, it can cause a monumental headache for mixers and slow the entire project down. Not only that, but it can also affect the quality of what’s ultimately shipped. As someone who has seen firsthand the extent to which a mixer can clean something up, I can confidently say that post production is an absolutely integral part of any project.
Alise , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I never could have predicted where my career would take me. Starting out at an audio post studio seemed like a safe and steady career path. But after working with ad agencies for a while, I began to see the potential for commercial acting, and before long, I was booking major productions left and right. From there, I knew I wanted to expand theatrically, and I dug deep into the industry on both sides of the camera. All of that knowledge culminated in my first short film, “USE,” which, to my surprise, I was nominated for best actor and picked up for a multi-year development deal. From there, I decided to start CINETHEIA, a company focused on providing creative services and guidance for short filmmakers. As well as executive producer at Lunar Studios founded by Kasandra Baruch and Mike Marasco . And now, I’m thrilled to announce that my children’s book, “Gianna’s Great Galactic Run,” is set to release in May 2023. It’s been a crazy journey so far, but I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As an artist, I find inspiration in the most unexpected places. For me, the intersection of social commentary and thriller settings is where my work truly shines. It allows me to delve deep into the fringes of society and explore some of the most pressing issues surrounding women’s rights in a way that is both thought-provoking and entertaining. Jordan Peele has been a significant influence on my work, and I strive to create pieces that are just as impactful as his. Through my art, I hope to challenge the way people think about society and inspire them to take action towards change. I firmly believe that art has the power to shape the world around us, and I am honored to be a part of that movement.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
It’s funny to think back on the winding road that led me to where I am today. It took me ten years to find my creative niche, but now that I’m here, I can’t help but feel grateful for the journey. I worked for years as a commercial actor, but I always felt like something was missing. It wasn’t until I started delving into writing and creating my own work that I truly found my voice. Taking that risk was scary, but it paid off in spades. And I couldn’t have done it without the support of my husband and creative team, Kasandra and Mike, who believed in me from the start. Trusting yourself and taking chances isn’t always easy, but it’s essential to finding the place where you truly shine. For me, that’s definitely in the realm of writing and creative expression.
