We recently connected with Alisa Modronja and have shared our conversation below.
Alisa , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Hi! My name is Alisa and I’m from St. Louis, MO. For a long time I had no idea what I wanted in life when it came to a career and I was uncertain of my passions and if they could take me any where. I’d look around and see friends and people I knew saying what their plans were and where they wanted to be. I always felt so lost. I pursued in medicine and then realized I hated it. I thought about teaching and that too wasn’t for me. I love psychology and was accepted to a university but decided against it because at that point I had gone through a lot of schooling and I didn’t want to deal with it anymore, especially if it was for a long time. But what I kept going back to and immersing myself in is makeup, skincare, and cosmetics. I taught myself how to do my makeup. I googled everything, watched so many videos and I loved to play in it. Same with skincare! I loved learning about what products do and what it’s good for. I had so much fun with it that I decided to show case my work on Instagram so other people can find me and book me for jobs, which I didn’t have much luck with. I then decided to go to school and become an esthetician. Towards the end of my schooling I kind of had an idea of what I wanted to create for my self! I got a job at Sephora and did makeup on clients which further helped me learn and grow as an artist. I started a YouTube channel, and just recently I started posting on TikTok! This summer I also started working with a bridal company called Studio Bride. With this career opportunity I get to continue growing, show casing my work online to every day people and brands and I get to freelance! Slowly everything is starting to come together and I know that the things I have not achieved yet will surely come to me one day!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a professional makeup artist and content creator! I freelance in the St. Louis, MO area. I work weddings and all kinds of special events that the client needs. Not only do I freelance but I create content online that deals with makeup too! I have an Instagram account where I post my work that I have done on my clients and myself. I have a YouTube channel where I create all kinds of looks for people to see and learn from if they wanted to. I create super dramatic colorful looks all the way to natural every day styles. I showcase every step and explain what I am doing so viewers understand and can follow along. I also started my very own TikTok where I create tutorials but that are much more shorter as social media is changing and people are looking for different things. I’d say I got in to beauty very young, maybe when I was a teenager and it wasn’t until later that I realized I could turn it in to a career! It started as me just doing peoples makeup before dances to what I have created now. I’d say I am most proud of myself and my work ethic. There have been many times where I felt like a failure, felt like giving up, or like I wasn’t good enough. But I kept pushing and I knew that I could get to where I wanted to be if I worked hard at it every day. The main things I’d want potential clients, followers, and fans to know is that I am a very honest person and that I am a big communicator. When you are sitting in my chair I really try to understand you and see your vision so I can make you feel the most beautiful in your skin.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A goal of mine that I feel is driving my creative journey is that one day I’m hoping to have lots of success. I want to take that success and use it to give back to communities and help others. A creator that I follow who is very big in the beauty community really inspired me. Her name is Carli Bybel and a while back she made a YouTube video talking about how she joined an organization where she helped raise funds for a number of girls in Cambodia to help them go to college for free. With that money they were able to build dorms, provide books, and school supplies that the girls would need to succeed. I thought that was so amazing! Thats what I hope to achieve one day! To be able to help others in a number of ways.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My most rewarding aspect about being an artist is seeing the growth within myself and seeing all that I am able to create. I am able to look back to when I first started to now and see all that I have learned and how I have grown in to the artist I am today. I am more creative, better, talented, and confident in my skill, and with that I am able to make others feel beautiful.
