Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alisa Johns-wallace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Alisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I actually manage my own social medias for my business. I’ve thought of hiring someone but right now—it’s just not cost effective for me. I made the choice to do my own social media so that I can keep it as authentic as possible with the connections I make virtually with new, old, returning and inquiring clients. The results so far has been efficient, I have been able to make majority of my profit from my social media presence. The lesson I’ve learned is consistency. Stay consistent with learning new insights and advice with social media marketing, be consistent with your customers and/or clients and also with your social media presence. Batch content creating has saved my social media presence countless of times. Create your posts in advance and draft them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I dropped myself into the Presson nail artistry world by accident on purpose ! I had become a new stay at home mom during the last bits of the pandemic and needed income but also needed to feel pretty. I honestly just took my love for art and drawing and transferred it from one medium and canvas to another— that just so happened to be presson nails. My always supporting best friend and sister Natalie loved my art-style and wanted me to create her nail sets of her own and the delusion for me to create a profitable business was birthed !
I create custom, hand-painted, re-usable, Luxury Presson Nails. So now I am the virtual nail tech to a few women within the DMV area and Florida. The foundation of my business is to provide the convenience of staying high-maintenance and feeling pretty with a fresh manicure that took me anywhere from 1-6 hours but for the client or my Nail Bestie as I like to call them a nail set that they can apply and wear anywhere at any time in any crunch at their leisure and convenience. As a best friend and sister, I always want my besties to feel their prettiest. And who wouldn’t love a nail-set that they love that they can re-wear again and again or mix and match with once their Presson nail collection grows? That’s what I’m proud of— having my art-style sought after for my nail bestie’s special life events or their everyday beauty regime while keeping the maintenance of nails budget-friendly.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I literally curated the best online community for myself and my nail business follower by follower. It was the research I put into learning social media marketing from YouTube University and following to content creators that gave awesome algorithm advice because I operate predominantly from Instagram and they are ALWAYS changing the way they push their users to the forefront.
I also made sure to surround myself virtually with like-minded, niche creators. So I genuinely followed and interacted with nail artists, nail enthusiasts, nail technicians and brands that were generally relative to my business. And slowly my I started to get followers and women that were interested in my art.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me is the interactions I have in person from doing vendor events with my business. As well as providing incentives for my clients when posting and tagging me in their nail photos on social media. That’s the best way and has worked so well for me.
