We were lucky to catch up with Alisa Figueroa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alisa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The Mission Behind Alisa Glam Cosmetics is very personal and has a lot of meaning behind it. My journey started from a traumatic event in my life that put me in a dark and lonely place. I had to learn how to do makeup on myself at the age of 16 covering my scars and gain confidence to go out in public. I then made the choice and had a 1 on 1 conversation with myself “Alisa, are you going to sink from this situation or swim and be somebody , change lives, boost confidence and make people feel how you feel when you do your own makeup?” so my calling was to become a Makeup Artist and turn pain into passion.
Alisa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! My name is Alisa Figueroa, I am a professional Makeup Artist based in South Florida. My business “Alisa Glam Cosmetics” started in 2020. it has been the best 3 years of my life. I have networked so much and met so many people who were able to give me an opportunity to be apart of their Projects, weddings, events, fashion shows ,travel out of state and etc. Its not easy in this industry but when you have a positive mindset and great work ethic, everything works out how its suppose to. My journey is different from others. I didn’t just wake up and want to be a makeup artist. in 2015 i went through something that changed my perspective on life. It lowered my confidence, my trust, my mentality and just me as a person. i struggled with myself for a long time because i was broken. I had to learn how to do makeup on myself to feel like Strong, happy, confident just to leave my house. I wanted to be a makeup artist then but coming from a background like mine that didn’t sound like a career more like a hobby.Fast forward to 2018, I moved to Miami from New jersey, worked in retail for 2 years but wasn’t happy, 2019 a friend invited me on set as her assistant and i loved the energy and knew thats when i wanted this to be my career, Pandemic happened and was furloughed, so had time to practice and Alisa Glam started. Building a Clientele was rough but i was grateful for anyone who gave me a chance and referred me to others, Ive now worked on over 20 music videos , 6 commercials, so many clients, also traveling with a huge company 4-6 times out of the year to work backstage for their events. What I am most proud of is myself and thats because I did not give up the many times i have felt like i failed and thought i made a wrong decision to work for myself, also turning a situation that almost ended my life into a Career that not only makes me happy but makes my clients feel like they are V.I.P.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best strategy for growing your clients is treating everyone like V.I.P. if they have a great experience with you , they will tell their friends and family about you. Does not matter their status , you have to treat everyone the same , positive energy when you are in their presence, listening to their wants and needs, I appreciate each and everyone of them because Word of Mouth is real and thats how i mostly i have clientele, of course self promotion works its self too , posting your work and reaching out to possible clients and letting them know you are interested in working with them for future projects and events.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
After an appointment I like to reach out to my clients and ask them how their makeup lasted , did they enjoy their time etc, talking to them as if we have been friends forever, we go back and forth and if they ever have questions about makeup application to just reach out. i will assist them by recommending products and quick tips, Just being a good human always leaves an impact and people will remember you for next time or recommending you
