Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alireza Khodayari. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alireza, appreciate you joining us today. So, folks often look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight – but that often obscures all the nitty, gritty details of everything that went into the growth phase of your business. We’d love to hear about your scaling story and how you scaled up?
Scaling up my career has been a journey of exploration and growth. It all started with a deep curiosity that pushed me to seek out new experiences and challenges. I was eager to learn, which led me to embrace various opportunities that came my way, whether through formal education or collaborative projects. This openness to new experiences enriched my understanding and kept my passion for music alive.
Of course, there were obstacles along the way. I faced musical struggles, from mastering different techniques on my instrument to navigating the intricacies of various styles and genres. Instead of viewing these moments as setbacks, I learned to see them as stepping stones on my path. Each challenge taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and adaptability, helping me refine my approach to both my craft and my career. I discovered that setbacks could lead to unexpected breakthroughs, and that resilience was essential for growth.
Over time, I also learned the importance of blending different perspectives and staying open to change. This mindset allowed me to explore a wide range of musical styles and ideas, broadening my artistic palette and enriching my work.
I scaled up by cultivating a mindset centered around continuous learning and resilience. By embracing challenges, remaining curious, and adapting to new situations, I’ve been able to grow both personally and professionally. This journey has allowed me to evolve into the artist I am today, always striving to push the boundaries of my creativity and seek out new opportunities, even amidst the struggles that have shaped my musical identity.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a musician and contemporary composer with a passion for exploring the intricate relationship between timbres, colors, and emotions in music. My journey into the world of music began at a young age, around ten, when I started to immerse myself in the art. It wasn’t just a fleeting interest; over the years, music transformed into a serious pursuit for me. By the age of sixteen, I had formed my own ensemble and performed my debut concert in my hometown, solidifying my commitment to this path.
To deepen my knowledge and skills, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in music at Tehran University of Art, and I am currently working towards a second Bachelor’s degree in Music at Berklee College of Music after moving to the U.S. This educational journey has allowed me to explore a diverse array of musical genres, including concert music, contemporary-classical chamber music, and Iranian microtonal contemporary music. My approach to music is somewhat scientific; I view it as a blend of mathematical relationships and emotions, where each note and rhythm holds meaning and significance.
What sets me apart is this unique perspective that intertwines the analytical with the creative. I’m inspired not only by music itself but also by other art forms, which enrich my understanding and creativity. I believe that an openness to experimental and contemporary music is crucial for fully appreciating the artistic landscape we live in today.
Throughout my career, I have encountered various struggles, both musically and personally. Each obstacle has been a valuable lesson in resilience and adaptability, teaching me that challenges can lead to unexpected breakthroughs. Embracing rejection as a natural part of the journey has empowered me to stay true to my artistic vision.
I take great pride in my dedication to continuous learning and growth. I hope my work inspires others to explore the vast landscape of music and to see it from new perspectives. My compositions are a reflection of this passion, and I encourage listeners to engage with various genres and styles, recognizing the unique value each one brings.
I want the people who read this interview to know that my journey is about independence, courage, and the pursuit of creativity. I believe that anyone can navigate their own path with resilience and a willingness to embrace both challenges and opportunities. Through my music, I aim to share this message and inspire others to pursue their passions wholeheartedly.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal has always been to be a productive and meaningful contributor to the world. In terms of my career, this means I am committed to discovering unexplored aspects of music, especially in composition. My fascination with sound and the interplay of colors in music motivates me to create a unique musical language that reflects my experiences and perspectives. This journey is not just about personal growth; it’s about enriching the broader musical landscape and inspiring others to explore their creativity.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, for me, is the ability to portray my cultural identity and engage in cultural dialogue through a universal language, music. I believe that art translates objects, history, and emotions into diverse artistic languages, such as music. This transformation fosters connections among people and encourages them to reflect on their own experiences, prompting them to think deeply about the world around them. I believe that an artist plays a significant role in opening the windows of enlightenment in the contemporary world and helping human beings to be more open-minded and curious about the objects and events happening around the world.
