We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alina Silva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alina below.
Hi Alina , thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I started off studying film and television when I graduated high school and became an editor and started landing gigs. I quickly realized that I didn’t want to be an editor and found a lot of interest in costuming. I began my journey thru film by styling women for music videos, commercials, then I found a great friend who brought me on to a ton of movies to assist her with costume designing. I started making clothes in my spare time. I had a rave wear brand for a few years while I was still pursuing costuming in film. I finally decided my love for clothing should have more depth and understanding so i signed myself up for fashion school at FIDM in DTLA. I just graduated this December 2023. I am currently in the process of launching a new brand while also still working fashion gigs for other brands. I love fashion.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a gig to gig fashion designer I provide a lot of different services for clients. It depends on the person and what type of project they have for me. I provide simple alterations, styling storyboards, I create patterns for clients needing help moving forward in a project, I’ve created entire costumes from scratch. Outfits for events or music videos. I’ve also worked on wedding dresses, veils. The limit does not exist for what I can help with. I love to push myself and my knowledge. I’ve accepted projects that I wasn’t entirely skilled in and taught myself new skills just to be able to help my client out with their garment.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My first goal was to graduate from college because I’d be the first in my family. Now that I’ve finally made that dream happen my new goal is to step up my social media game and start creating content to let people see my work. I really would love to launch my new brand and provide beautiful clothing to the world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
After working night and day on a project without sleeping or eating much due to the love I have for starting and finishing a project, I live for the moment when a client opens up their garment bag and gets super excited about the piece! It never fails, every single time. I love seeing their faces when they get excited it makes it all so worth.
