We were lucky to catch up with Alicia Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alicia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk of my life was betting on myself. I have never really been the most confident person. Even to this day when I get compliments about myself sometimes I can’t believe it I never was really popular and my ideas have always come off a little crazy. When I decided to dive into the hair industry and make products. Plus, I also do a show about it, it was one of the biggest risks of my life. Because I had to put myself out there and become the confident person that I am now. When I decided that this is the path that I wanted to go on, I had to sacrifice a lot of things. I spent mini light. I spent many nights in crying and wondering if he was the best decision. To be honest, it was the best decision..To be honest, it was the best decision.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Where I interview legends and pioneers in the hair industry. We also have the lovely Hair Talk ! crew with Kinky Hair Kulture and the Hair Fairy Godmother! I am also the co-owner of Kitchen Beautician magazine. Where we talk about the hair industry, beauty, and fashion. My goal is to bring awareness to the natural hair community. To report the news that no one is talking about. To educate my community about their hair. To help the next generation of young black girls to know that they could have beautiful healthy hair. to also preserve the history that goes along with black hair.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
To be honest with you, being a big mouth. Having the courage to go talk to people when everybody else was scared. I am known for being that eager and ambitious loudmouth young girl in the room and it used to bother me. Teachers used to always say that I would never get anywhere because I was always talking. Now that same trait that some people try to criticize me. But if I didn’t have the courage and the ability to go talk to people. I never would’ve became an entrepreneur in the first place.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Networking! You have to understand the only way you can get more clients and grow as a business. I am not only talking about people that only in your field either. Explore outside your industry and you’ll be surprised at the people that you’ll meet. Plus the different connections that you will build a better network. I think a lot of the times our generation gets so caught up in ourselves that we think we can do everything by ourselves. But everybody needs a good ally. Some of my biggest clients have come from the connections I made.
