We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alicia Resendes Knox. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alicia below.
Alicia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The biggest risks I’ve taken in life were when I moved to San Diego, leaving my home town of Toronto where I’ve spent my whole life (yikes!) and of course when I launched my digital marketing business. I think with any risks, we are taken out of our comfort zone which can be scary but the learning and growing along the way is so invaluable. At the height of the pandemic, I felt a calling to start my own digital marketing business as my aim is to help scale small businesses with expert strategic Meta ads campaigns and branding design.

Alicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Markana Creative at the height of the pandemic as I felt I could leverage my design and strategic thinking background in the digital marketing space. Most small businesses lack the marketing strategies to attract their ideal target audience and I’ve found amazing success with custom Meta ads campaigns and branding design that speak to the overall client message. Most of my clients are busy running their businesses so when it comes to their marketing strategy, that’s where I come in! We take pride in offering custom digital marketing solutions that contribute to small business growth. It’s very rewarding! What sets us apart is our holistic approach to our clients marketing strategy which involves where their marketing efforts currently stand and how we can best work together to achieve their goals.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Absolutely! I’ve gained so much value in women-based marketing groups and personal mentors I’ve partnered with where we meet on a weekly basis to talk about where our business currently stand, how can we scale (always looking ahead!), and how are we attracting our ideal target audience so we can be dedicated to ‘our people’.
I’ve also found a great deal of value in Anna Konchar’s podcast and online courses that have allowed me to expand my knowledge in this particular line of business. The ladies with the Bucketlist Bombshells empire are amazing as well and offer such great insight in their weekly podcasts as well. If there was a book I could recommend to other entrepreneurs it would definitely be Jen Sincero’s ‘You are a Badass’. If you know you know!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building your social media presence can certainly take a lot of time and effort, especially when you also specialize in digital marketing! I value the community I’ve been able to be a part of and see my social pages as an opportunity for other small business to learn about the paid marketing space and how it can bring value to their business. Truly speaking to your target audience and outlining the solutions to their problem is key to building that online like, know, and trust.
