We were lucky to catch up with Alicia Pozsony recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alicia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I’d have to say my biggest risk was writing my first book. Not only was it a risk to put myself out there and be vulnerable, but it was a risk because it was the easiest thing I had done. You see, I come from a dysfunctional upbringing – my mother had mental illness – so I was not raised with that stability, support or structure to give me the confidence and that 1 thing that allows people to grow, excel and succeed. Just imagine how that impacts a person. It makes them second guess themselves, and it takes them longer sometimes to achieve their goals. I got out from under that dangerous place with my mother, and that is a story worth telling – more on that later. But I came to a point in my life after doing my best and succeeding in areas that worked for me, both as an IT professional and in the many other female roles I had. Yet I still felt unfulfilled. I had a longing and a calling. I then began tapping into the thing that worked to get me as far as I was. I began saying yes. I gave myself permission. I took that risk and wrote a book. It’s called Emotional Strength Explained. I wanted to help other people rise above their challenges and get unstuck. That’s when the flood gates opened!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I first got into this industry not by choice, but by circumstance. My mothers mental illness left me with trauma filled experiences that left me needing to step out of the darkness and into the light. I have been an advocate of the important topic of destigmatizing mental illness and wellness for decades, because my mother was mentally ill and that took quite a toll on me growing up. I loved to moved around more times than I could count, I was abandoned, homeless, starved, and more. After enduring what I had endured, I knew I had to help others. I first helped others in what I had succeeded in – Career and Professional life. I counseled thousands of people to move up and on in their careers with my New Resume = New you since 2014. I gave seminars, workshops and talks with Professional Services Groups. Then, I trained as a life coach. I finally followed my destined path in Health and Wellness to become an author in 2021 with my self-help books Emotional Strength Explained during the Covid Pandemic and then Funbook, for kids, with my daughter as a co-author! That led to the next level in my life. After I stopped fighting it, making excuses, said yes, and gave myself permission to grow and step into my purpose-aligned self, It moved QUICKLY. I trained as a behavior specialist, counseled children, trained in ARC Grow (Attachment Regulation Competency, a caregiver skill building intervention designed to enhance resilient outcomes for families who are impacted by chronic adversity or stress) with Rutgers University. I was invited to do a Radio Show. I call my Show Resilient YOU with Alicia Pozsony on Power 98.5 Satellite Radio in 300 countries, streaming on Apple Music and videos available on IHeartRADIO and Spotify. I now feature Top Talent in Television, Movies, Sports and Music as well as Leaders, Entrepreneurs and Experts.

Personally I have another thing I am doing to inspire hope through my story, I am taking the next step with my memoir and am working on a screenplay for The Story of My life which holds great potential as a captivating TV series. With each episode, the focus can be directed towards different aspects of my experiences, delving into the intricacies of my relationship with my mother, the blurred lines that occurred within our relationship and exploring the impact of my mother’s past. As the series progresses, viewers can witness my personal growth and resilience during the 80’s in New Jersey, leading up to a climactic and satisfying conclusion that completes my transformative journey. I hope Saoirse Ronan or Reese Witherspoon plays me as an adult. I looked up a child actress named Lexi Janicek who reminds me of myself as a child. So exciting!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a time when I had to pivot in business and in life. People deal with feelings or situations, right? Well, the fact of the matter is we are complex. Changing one thing Is not usually going to solve that problem. I work with people on the 8 areas of themselves – emotional, physical, occupational, intellectual, financial, social, environmental, and spiritual. That is what I had to do. Things were seemingly well enough, I had overcome some obstacles, I had a family, friends, work, nice clothes, but something was tugging at me. I was going through the motions. That is when I realized I had to make changes for the better in many areas. I started taking small steps toward the things that would make a difference for me. As hard as it was I learned about boundaries and set them so that I could come first. I learned it as OK to take care of myself. I learned the dance of managing things so that the missing things started abundantly to come into my life. The Career coaching, led to life coaching which led to spirituality and openness to face my demons and work through challenges. God brought me a mentor who said some truths that hit home and I am forever grateful. In one sentence, I went to a place that I never wanted to visit. I don’t tell people this but it was abandonment. I had an issue that I never worked through. That personal work led to personal growth that gave back on so many levels.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Non-creatives will struggle to understand about my journey or perhaps dismiss it because of their beliefs. In my journey I had to go through the concept of self evaluation, It is disrupting and until you go through it, you may not see the value or worth. For example, let’s take William. Will had a good upbringing, playing sports and acting in plays during his high school years. He went to college at his parents urging majoring in business and worked toward a career in pharma and now has a family and house in the suburbs. He sees his family and friends at holidays and although he has what he was taught is a good life, he sighs often, doesn’t have a spark in his eye and if he was honest with himself, he is going through the motions and is not happy. What if Will could be happy?
Then let’s take Rajni who grew up in a misogynistic country where women had their life planned out. She did her best to align with her country, family and upbringings but in her twenties, she was not happy. Everything in the fibers of her very being was screaming for her to take action.
Let me tell you a secret – Both William and Rajni can be happy.
If they made the choice to be honest and align with their authentic self, their lives would fall into place and they would find joy. That is what matters and that is what my process does for people. I take them on a journey of self discovery that bridges the gap with their skill sets, and the things that bring them joy.
So just because these things are not what their parents wanted, or not what they were taught, they can still make their lives better if they choose to open up to it. It’s freedom!
