We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alicia Mitchekk. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alicia below.
Alicia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful mentors on my journey. Especially women! Their guidance and mentorship was a turning point in my life. They’ve embraced me, nurtured my talents, and sometimes created positions of authority that were tailored just for my creative gifts/talents. They believed in me so much so, that they allowed me to be just who am and meet me halfway. I’m honored for their continuous support along the way! I find that I naturally gravitate towards women in leadership roles as mentors. Through my advocacy work within the community. or just friendly introductions. I adhere to their wisdom and look forward to not on applying it to my skills but continue to be a student until I become a Master. Which has led me to start coaching and mentoring my very own student for almost about 2 years now. It’s time to pass the torch!
Alicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I want to start with my publishing background and maybe some fun facts people may not know about my editorial side. I’ve published 2 articles with CanvasRebel, 4 articles with VoyageDallas, and have officially joined their Collaboration Partner team! I’ve been awarded the Impact Award with Digitunity in 2022 for my upward transition. From volunteering to becoming a Coding Program Trainer with Compudopt. A sponsored segment with FOX4 and Dallas Morning News on Advocacy for Childcare! Published an Every Texan Childcare Afterschool Video. Along with giving my testimony at a city council meeting, In support of continuous funding for free OST. Through my Ambassador and Advocacy work for Dallas Afterschool. Being featured with my mentee on North Texas Giving Day. Created a bi-lingual newsletter for parents thorough being an Ambassador for NCFL that provided resources for families.. Participated in guest host Collaborations Internationally with Nigerian and Canadian Podcasters. Been featured over 4 times on local radio stations. Several online and digital interviews with local media. Lastly, I have published an official podcast called OTC (Overcome the Challenge) that’s been ongoing for about 3 years and featured in over 60 countries! Which I’ve recently been accepted into Apple Services Performance Partners Program!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Hello Resilience! Which is actually one of my favorite top episodes internationally, and #3 on my podcast OTC! Titled Allowing yourself Grace/Resilience! I do know now, in order to allow myself grace and resilience. I have to be very non-judgmental towards myself. Including my flaws, quirks, and shortcomings. To actively set personal boundaries within myself and with others. Also, adhering to my own limitations. Which led me to one of my current podcast episodes. Imperfect ME! On season 3, episode #7. I wholeheartedly and gracefully accept all my imperfections and what makes me unique. Embracing not being perfect and doing away with all my perfectionistic tendencies. Knowing I’m a flawed human being. That is not perfect, nor striving to attain perfection. That’s what takes tremendous Resilience!!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Quite honestly, I’m always pivoting due to my expansive and multi-dimensional career. Learning adaption wasn’t my strong point due to me being a creature of habit. Processing things slower than others. Learning to adapt to the Situational Leadership Model. Adapt, is one of the competencies, which is basically pivoting. I also did a guest host episode with Shunte Gamble. on her podcast Let’s Talk Life XL. Where we discussed what is means to pivot and pivoting scenarios in more detail. Pivoting is very interchangeable. It’s all about learning to adapt, be fluid, and flexible. Things are in constant flux and changing. I believe, being open-minded and open to change is very necessary in order to thrive.
