We recently connected with Alicia Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Alicia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
As a massage therapist and small business owner, I’ve learned that offering a great service isn’t about having a luxury spa or a long menu of treatments with fancy names. For me, it’s about creating a comfortable, welcoming space filled with care and intention, and focusing on quality and real results. In the past three years, I started investing in international certifications so I can continue growing in knowledge and bringing more value, passion, and love to my work. My clients often share that what they experience with me is something they haven’t found in big resorts or high-end spas, and that means a lot to me. At the end of the day, the best investment I can make in my business is in myself—learning, gaining experience, and exploring new modalities that allow me to keep offering something meaningful and unique.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Born in El Paso and raised in Ciudad Juárez, MX. I was inspired early on by my grandmother’s traditional healing practices. That influence guided me to my true calling as a massage therapist, a journey that began after overcoming challenges as a single Hispanic mother and one of the first in my class to earn my license.
In 2021, I moved with my daughter, Frida, to Austin, where we found a welcoming community and new opportunities for growth. My passion for continuous learning has shaped my path: in 2023 I traveled to Barcelona to become certified in Emotional Kinesiology, and this year I’ll journey to Thailand for training in Thai Massage. These experiences, along with certifications in myofascial release, sports, prenatal, and lymphatic techniques, allow me to create sessions tailored to each client’s unique needs.
My mission is simple but heartfelt: to provide a safe, supportive space where people feel truly cared for, while empowering them with tools for lasting wellness.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first started my business, I imagined success as having a franchise with many employees. Over time, that definition has changed completely. Moving to Austin as a single mom, without the resources for a big commercial space, advertising, or industry connections, brought many challenges. No matter how much I worked or spent on marketing, it often felt impossible to compete with Austin’s large massage industry.
But after spending time in Thailand, my perspective shifted deeply. I gained clarity about what success means to me and, more importantly, who I am. Today, I see success not in numbers or growth on paper, but in being a person of love, kindness, humility, and continuous learning. For me, investing in my knowledge allows me to offer treatments that feel warm, empathetic, and full of heart. I don’t want to simply provide a massage and collect payment—I want to create a relationship of trust, care, and healing with my clients.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
For me, it’s very simple—I take the time to truly get to know each of my clients. I listen carefully to their needs and pay attention to the details that matter to them. From time to time, I’ll even send a quick follow-up message to check in and see how they’re doing, not just as clients, but as people I genuinely care about.
This personal connection is what I love most about my work. Massage and holistic healing allow me to build relationships that go beyond a treatment—they create space for care, trust, and love. That connection is, without a doubt, the most gratifying part of what I do.
