We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alicia Johnson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alicia below.
Alicia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
How did I come up with the name Ladybug 🐞 savory cuisine? Well I feel like this was pretty simple for me. I was pretty much a baby when my mom began to call me Ladybug 🐞 and after a while I literally started to like Ladybug 🐞 and Noticing them more and grew fond of them. I’ve always thought that my meals were savory and filling I wouldn’t say Comfort, but I definitely would say savoring because I am not a southern cook. I’m not from the south from from the Midwest and the And the last part of the cuisine, I feel like it just mesh well together and that’s how Ladybug 🐞 savory cuisine was born.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Starting out, I have always been the one to cook any of the meals I have provided. I’ve always enjoyed hosting and entertaining. Though, I have not had any culinary skills directly shown to me, it took my consistency and persistency of my passion to create and make things on my own. After sometime of exploring my desire for culinary, I one day decided to make a post on social media asking if “I were to start selling plates would anyone be interested in purchasing them?” I received a lot of feedback about that post stating “Why did it take you so long to think about this? and “Yes, absolutely we would purchase”. The first sale gave me the ammunition that I needed to give it a shot. From one sale my life changed for the greater so I continued for sometime doing plate sales and also some catering. Having the discipline to prioritize your time and effort and being consistent with the meals that you’re presenting matters the most to clients and to me as the provider. I believe what set me apart from others is because I actually take the time to get to know my clients, evaluate their choice of catering and the event in order to fulfill their personal needs.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been social media and WhatsApp. Specifically, WhatsApp allows me to directly communicate with my clients without it interfering with my other text messages and calls. Social media continues my ability to network and meet new people.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
For me, A pivot that I have to make in my personal, business and career life is when I chose to take the leap of faith into exploring culinary, though I am not licensed in culinary. Instead of going to culinary school, I decided to establish an LLC to network my business. This transition was specifically hard for me, as I had to trust my own skills with my lack of license, hoping that people would trust me, my cleanliness and my abilities to cook, and provide and to fulfill the needs of my prospective clients. Overall, I am glad that I made this pivot in my life, though it took some time to transition into. I am still transitioning, I have been able to find a balance within my business, along with my career.
