We were lucky to catch up with Alicia Ifill recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alicia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue photography as an artistic path professionally was when I was in middle school. It all started with my uncle who gifted me my first camera which was a Sony NEX-6. From there he taught me all I needed to know about photography. With my new camera, I started to shoot with friends and family and for any new photographer, the best advice I have is to use the people who care and support you as your models it’s a great way to test any new techniques and styles you may want to try. I started to get serious in my final year of middle school as I started to charge people for shoots and from there I knew that this is what I wanted to do as a career. Now that I take photography professionally I can say my work has expanded and I have been working with a lot of amazing individuals.

Alicia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, hello, if you haven’t heard of me I am Alicia Ifill, an Orlando, Florida photographer. I am twenty years old and have been pursuing photography for about six years now. My work consists of almost everything ranging from family-style shoots to creative portraits, but my passion is to specialize in fashion and editorial work. If you ever decide to book a shoot with me I make sure my clients are comfortable in front of the camera, especially with individuals who have never done a photoshoot before. When a shoot ends and the person tells me how beautiful and confident they feel it always makes me happy and that’s honestly what I want to do with my craft. What I would want patiently clients/followers to know about my work is that I am always here for you and whatever creative vision you have. I am also here to break social norms and create unique works of art. Don’t shy away I am one click away and love making new connections and friends.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal that keeps my creative journey driven is to one day be a well know photographer because of the lack of black representation in the field. As a black female, I struggle to find individuals who look like me and who also pursue what I want to do. I want to be one of those individuals who inspire young black photographers so that one day I can help them grow their businesses. When looking at the creatives who inspire me Tyler Mitchell, Raven B. Varona, and Rafael Pavarotti all inspire me to keep going as my goal is possible to reach.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I would say the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to see my visions come to life as well as helping other individuals with their visions. Many people don’t enjoy their job, and I am so unbelievably grateful that I love and am passionate about mine. Being able to shoot almost every day with a new concept is super rewarding and allows me to meet so many unique and talented individuals. Photography is such a huge community and is filled with so many talented people; I am so grateful every day to say that I am a part of it, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
