We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alicia Gonzalez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alicia below.
Alicia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I came up with the name Future Star Photography after working with several musicians, models and other talented people in the community, especially with kids who are inspired to have bigger dreams in life and shine like a star. 🤩 My artist name for my music Real Mami and fashion name Retro Mami Fashion came from the fact that my kids have always been my inspiration and first in my life. I even turned down opportunities because they needed me more when they were younger. It has been a long journey, but I never quit since I know they are always watching me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started taking photography serious after a model friend told me I should become a professional photographer. After that moment, I took several professional photography courses during the pandemic and practiced at several events and with several models, friends and family. I also had to stay disciplined and learn the business aspect about photography in order to be professional.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is it allows you to be yourself and different. I love the fact that you can create originality and stand out from the crowd. I never really wanted to be a follower, always wanted to be a leader. My high school motto was “be a leader not a follower,” and that has stuck with me forever. Being a creative allows me to use all of my talents to make music and design clothes so that I can be different and original and represented my personal style and culture.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Most of my clients came from fashion events or by referrals from others. Sometimes, I also run into people who find out I’m a photographer and ask me to work with them.
