We were lucky to catch up with Alice Guzman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alice, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope that I can be remembered as someone that was passionate and creative. Someone that always stayed true to themselves and their art no matter what other people said. And I hope that with that, I can inspire others to stay true to themselves and create art that speaks to their authentic selves and not what is trending or what will get the audiences favor.

Alice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi there! I’m Alice, your friendly Denver-based photographer. My lens captures a diverse range of subjects, spanning from weddings, couples, and pet portraits to branding and the eerie world of conceptual horror photography. Embracing my role as the unconventional creative, I thrive on a peculiar blend of fascination for horror and thriller films, intertwined with an undying romantic soul. Consider me a multifaceted artist, equipped with an array of tools and skills. My passion lies in freezing life’s most cherished moments into timeless photographs. Yet, I also revel in the art of crafting captivating concepts that ignite your imagination and spin intricate tales through the medium of still imagery.
With a decade of experience as a photographer, complemented by a background in filmmaking and writing, I’m here to tell your unique story.

Have you ever had to pivot?
After COVID-19 lockdown occurred I was faced with a hard decision. I graduated in 2020 with my BFA in Digital Filmmaking from Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts. Graduating into a full-blown pandemic and worldwide lockdown was definitely not in my 5-year plan. I had wanted to dive into the world of filmmaking but finances and the uncertainty of the world drove me to another path.
I found my love for conceptual photography within my small 2 bedroom apartment during lockdown. I would spend days conceptualizing and sketching ideas for shoots and would photograph myself for the very first time in the comfort of my own home-because that was all I had. It kept me going during the unprecedented times of the pandemic lockdown and with that, came a love for still images and photography. I ended up growing a social media following and became a part of a much larger online community that both inspired me and kept me going during the darkest days of solitude.
Afterward, I didn’t have a future plan and fell into the world of wedding and portrait photography upon moving to Denver, Colorado. I’ll always be forever grateful for the online photography community for pushing me to share unconventional photography and to pursue my newer passion of photography.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Each person carries their own distinct life experiences, and the true allure of being an artist lies in the ability to manifest these feelings and encounters into tangible, physical, or even auditory forms of expression. Artistry, at its core, is an eternal quest for self-expression. It’s the act of perceiving the world through your own lens, rendering it inherently unique. I’ve embraced the identity of an artist since childhood, nurtured in an environment surrounded by fellow creatives and painters. Art infuses vitality into every facet of existence. The privilege of capturing and crafting moments that encapsulate stories is something I cherish deeply, never taking it for granted.
