Kevin, a remarkable builder, had a dream of creating Atlanta’s first cargo home – a groundbreaking concept made from shipping containers. Kevin’s vision was promising, but he faced the challenge of gaining recognition in a competitive industry.

With a recommendation from my past client, Kevin reached out to me, recognizing the potential in my videography and drone expertise. He had seen the work I did for my previous client and believed I could help bring his cargo home project to life on film.

Together, Kevin and I embarked on a months-long journey to document every step of this extraordinary project, from laying the foundation to the moment it was sold. I put my heart and soul into the project, meticulously filming every detail and turning the construction process into a compelling story that showcased Kevin’s craftsmanship and passion.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?

One day, while I was flying a drone in Atlanta to capture footage for a realtor, I found myself in a situation that felt like a near-death moment for the business. It all started innocently enough, as I aimed to get the perfect shot from a drone, but little did I know that a simple flight would turn into a challenging ordeal.

As fate would have it, my drone got stuck in a tree about three stories high. I tried everything in my power to retrieve it, but the drone seemed determined to stay put. Realizing that I needed professional assistance, I called the police and the fire department for help.

Unfortunately, at that moment, both the police and the fire department were unable to provide immediate assistance, leaving me feeling quite desperate. That’s when a close friend of mine, knowing the importance of the situation, rushed to the scene with tools in an attempt to help me knock down the drone as it was still within my line of sight.

However, what happened next took us all by surprise and turned this near miss into a truly harrowing experience. While my friend was assisting me in trying to retrieve the drone, he accidentally fell and fractured his back. It was a shocking and painful turn of events, and we were faced with a double crisis – a drone stuck in a tree and a dear friend in need of immediate medical attention.

Later, with the drone still stuck and my injured friend receiving medical care, I decided to revisit the fire department. This time, I was determined to plead my case and hopefully get their assistance in retrieving the drone. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to meet and talk to the fire chief, who took an interest in our predicament.

Thankfully, the fire department agreed to assist me in getting the drone back. It was a relief, but the challenges were far from over. When we finally managed to retrieve the drone from its lofty perch, it became clear that one of the fan motors had suffered damage during its tree-bound adventure.

At this point, my friend, despite his injuries, displayed remarkable generosity and helped me repair the damaged motor. His support and expertise were invaluable, and we were eventually able to get the drone back in working condition.

This experience served as a stark reminder of the unpredictability and challenges that can arise in the world of videography and drone operation. It was a close call that could have been a major setback for the business. However, it also highlighted the resilience, resourcefulness, and camaraderie that can emerge during tough times. It’s a story we look back on with a mix of relief, gratitude, and a greater appreciation for the unforeseen challenges that come with our line of work.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

As a fellow creative, one of the most rewarding aspects of our journey is the ever-evolving process of self-improvement and learning. I wholeheartedly resonate with this sentiment, and I believe that it’s the foundation of our growth and success in the world of cinematography and photography.
