We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alican Akman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alican, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

I made my own movie in this year. It is my own story. My friend is gonna direct it. He helped me to write it as well. It’s so special because it is my first movie I wrote ever ! It is based on true story. It’s dark comedy immigrant story. We shot on Hollywood Blvd. It is really low budget movie. Also I started to do improv shows with my friends. We made improv team. It is so fun journey ! I love make people laugh and I love collaborating with my friends. I wanna make it bigger things with my team.

Alican, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Alican Akman. I’m a Gemini ! I started to acting in my hometown in Turkey! I’m originally from Turkey. I started to do acting when I was 18. I tried to study logistic management and other stuffs but I couldn’t do it. I felt like I have to be in the stage ! I want my first tv show when I was 21. I moved to US in 2016. I took a break from acting. Because I tried to adapt a different life in here. I was almost giving up from my passion. Because I felt like I’m in different life now. But something’s told me that I shouldn’t give up. And here I am. I made my first movie and I made my improv team with my friends. It’s like a dream. I believe people shouldn’t expect chance from industry, they have to make their own chance.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Good feedbacks,laughs and cheers. Money can’t give you this pleasure.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

There are some movies. Sam Raimi & Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies changed my life. Those movies started my US life dreams,being better person and passion on acting. Robert Downey Jr’s life story gave me encouragement. He is my idol. I was so happy when he won Oscar. He is great example for everyone. He is a great reminder that because you hit bottom doesn’t mean you have to stay there.
