We were lucky to catch up with Ali Wise recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ali, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Asking family or friends for referrals as a real estate agent should be a no-brainer and something that everybody should do. If you would ask someone for a referral for a doctor or lawyer, why not real estate agent? Some people have a fear when it comes to asking family or friends to refer business to them because they don’t want to “mix personal with business.“ Some of my best business and my favorite clients have come directly from word of mouth from other family or friends, whether those family or friends have worked with me or not. On a personal level, they know me well enough to know that I’m somebody who can be trusted to get the job done. Furthermore, the validation is the five-star reviews that I ultimately receive from all of my clients.

Ali, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I spent 13 years in corporate real estate. I did global retail real estate for three fortune 100 companies. I loved what I did, the connections I made, the relationships I built and the work that I accomplished. But ultimately, I wanted to help people, couples and families, not just fortune 100 corporations. I’m a huge people person and I genuinely love helping people! Part of the brand persona that I’ve grown to adopt is “how I do it all.“ For example, I seem to master the art of real estate, being a full-time mom to three young children, and a supportive wife to a husband who travels frequently, without ever missing a beat or burning out. I enjoy and thrive off of being busy!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2021, we decided to relocate our family from the Pacific Northwest to both Scottsdale, AZ, as well as Miami, FL, at the same time. Prior to the move, I was dual licensed in Oregon and Washington as a real estate agent. Some said I was crazy for them getting licensed in states three and four upon making our move, but it was necessary for me to continue to run my business and do what I love. Throughout the journey, I have developed some incredible referral, partner relationships, and continue to do business in all four states, as well as all over the nation through those referral partners. I now run a larger organization within my brokerage in 12 different states. That huge life pivot in 2021 allowed me to expand my business and both shift and grow my mindset at the same time. While it was certainly a fear to some degree, it created ample opportunity and opened so many doors for me at the present time and for my future. I believe that change is always good and that it’s a mindset shift more than anything.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I lead the #ClosingDay Team at eXp Realty. The Agents on my team have invested their trust in me, the least I can do is invest my time in them. Just like with my clients or my family, I am always available for my team. I take time to respond to them as immediately as possible, Send them Tutorials on how-to subjects, and hold their hand as tightly or loosely as they need as a new agent to the industry or simply a new agent to the brokerage, which is a unique, cloud based brokerage. Having patience and the understanding on how to lead by example is crucial for any leadership role.
