We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ali Kinsey Keith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ali below.
Hi Ali, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
Since the creation of Kinsey Designs in 2015, support from my family and friends has not been in short supply. I know when my friends or family need a gift they think of Kinsey first, and they’re always willing to share a social media post.

Ali, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a third generation jewelry designer, I grew up in Central Arkansas surrounded by an endless amount of unique styles My grandmother owned an antique store which became a well-known clothing and jewelry warehouse used by numerous Hollywood costume designers. I became familiar with all types of jewelry ranging from 1900’s cameos to 1980’s broaches.
With a strong understanding of quality jewelry and southern hospitality, I pride myself on creating exceptional pieces and providing excellent customer service. Each of our pieces is crafted with versatility in mind and made for every woman’s style. Kinsey Designs’ pieces can be worn alone for an elegant and dainty look or layered to create a bold presence that is unique to the wearer. Wanting to turn accessories into necessities, I strive to make jewelry the focal point of any look.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
While I’m thankful for my Southern raising, I’ve had to unlearn the need to be agreeable. I still offer a “yes ma’am” and “no, sir” but in the business world, I’m learning to call out issues I don’t agree with and stand against something when it’s not right for me or my business.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Kinsey Designs was started with $500 in materials. The main sources of capital were time and effort. I took my 2012 Ford Fusion all over the South looking for stores that would give my line a chance. I would make a sell and put the money right back into the business until it finally started to snowball.
