Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ali Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ali, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
There are many qualities that can make a successful photographer or business owner. Of course success looks different for everyone, but to me it is the achievement of personal goals. As a couples photographer, my goals are to continuously improve upon my skills, enhance the experience I give to my clients, and serve them with memories and images that will last a lifetime.
In the first few years of starting my business I certainly dealt with imposter syndrome. As a self-taught photographer, I definitely had times where I didn’t feel “good enough” or “talented enough”. That was something I had to overcome and understand that I was not alone in that feeling. It’s something most, if not all, business owners go through at some point. I realized after a while that it’s not about me… it’s about serving my clients. Once I changed my mindset and started putting myself in my clients shoes, asking myself how I could better serve them, my business took off. I believe in myself because I believe in the value I offer my clients.
Ali, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Photography has always been something I’ve had an interest in. Growing up I was always playing around with a camera, taking photos, and getting creative with editing my images. Once I moved to Colorado I fell in love with taking photos of the beauty in nature and the mountainous landscapes. After I had my daughter in 2018 I found a whole new passion for portrait photography. I would the post photos I took of my daughter on my social media and soon I had other friends and family asking me to take photos for them and their families. Up until 2020 I always considered it just a hobby, but once Covid hit and I lost my 9-5 job, I decided to take the leap into starting my own business and going full time with photography. It was the best decision I could have ever made. My business really took off when I had the time to put all my focus and energy into it. I have always loved nature, adventure, and love – and I’m able to combine all of those things together in my business now. I offer my clients the chance to explore beautiful parts of Colorado while I create meaningful photo experiences and capture their genuine love and connection. I’m proud of how far I’ve grown my business over the past few years and I look forward to everything that is to come!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There are so many rewarding parts of my job. The biggest one is probably the fact that I am able to help support my family and stay home with my daughter – all while having a creative outlet in my life. I feel so blessed to have a job that is flexible and fulfilling in that way. I am constantly learning new things, trying new techniques, and finding ways to serve my clients better.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to capture the beauty in the biggest and smallest moments of my client’s lives. My purpose is always to serve them wholeheartedly and provide them with lifelong memories and photos that they can cherish forever. I feel so lucky to be a part of some of their most important moments – proposals, anniversaries, elopements, weddings, and even pregnancy announcements and maternity photos. I’ll never take it for granted to be trusted and included in these significant celebrations. It’s an honor and I don’t take it lightly.
