We recently connected with Ali Denton and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ali thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
The biggest difference of what sets Intentional Goods apart is the quality of ingredients we use in our candles. We do not skimp or go for the cheaper option because top quality and safe ingredients are so important to us. We use all-natural oils, cotton lead free wicks and top grade soy wax. We have had so many people come up to us saying they are so scared to buy candles because of what has come out in the news lately. We are changing that and have been for the past four years. I have so many repeat clients say that what we do is magic. Our scents are not over powering but they still get an amazing fragance that fills their home. Its the best!

Ali, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been a creative person and I want something I could make with my hands. I was on a hike one day and it hit me like a bolt of lightning. I could totally make intentional and all-natural candles. I have always loved candles since I can remember and chemistry was one of my favorite classes in high school and creating candles you definitely feel like a chemist! It took a lot of trial and error but we have created something so different and unique because we can serve people with highly sensitive noses like myself and my team. I am so proud that we have thrived through a pandemic and come out the other side. We have such incredible stockists and customers that they keep coming back. That is so huge for a small business. I am also super proud of our branding. We love to keep everything minimal with our sleek white jars and wooden tops. My biggest want was that it would be aesthetically pleasing in everyones home.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Starting my candle company, Intentional Goods, was my biggest pivot yet. I had always played it safe but there was this creative fire burning on the inside. I knew that if I kept working an 8-5 job I would be unhappy. For some, that is great but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and see what I was capable of. It was not easy. Especially having to formulate my candles and create something completely from scratch. There was a certain excitement in the process where I could put my official stamp on something and be my own boss. If you feel the itch, do it!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I honestly think the clean ingredients we use and our aesthetic. We do a lot of private label for customers and they love that they can customize the label to fit what they need and it looks like it was made for their hotel or boutique. The clean ingredients are a game changer for the candle world. We do not have anything in our candles that is toxic so people can feel safe again to buy candles and support a small business.
