We recently connected with Alfredo Ponce and have shared our conversation below.
Alfredo , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was aware I wanted to be an artist at an early age. I was inspired by my older brother Jose. He was an is an amazing artist. As a child, I wanted to be just like him. Unfortunately I did not get the gift. I gave up this dream for over four decades. Although I gave it up, the desire was always burning. At the age of 40, I taught myself how to do art with the use of the crutch of a computer or in my case my iPad. My desire Came full circle with the development of my technological skills. Once I figured I can use an iPad to create art, there was no looking back. As an almost 50 year old man I know continue to live my childhood dream.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Art and creating has always been part of my soul The truth is I received this dream from my father. In his late years, he filled his garage with gadgets and inventions he created. As a psychologist and educator, I wanted to blend it in with the art and science of teaching. Over the last 10 years , I have drawn over 10,000 different images. I utilize media to reach out and advertise to a larger and more special audience. I have had the pleasure of doing work for comedian and actor George Lopez and Chris Perez The great Salinas late husband. In addition, via social media my work has been propagated by icons by the likes of Salma Hayek, Fergie, Eva Longoria, John Leguizamo, and countless other icons. I’ve had the pleasure of developing several Loteria games. One of the Loteria‘s was designed For essential workers who almost single-handedly kept many of us alive through the awful pandemic. I have also developed a loteria for a feature film America family. I am proud to say that my artwork has been displayed across the country and across the pond in England. Several of my art pieces were commissioned by the library of congress where they will live in perpetuity. Which is one of my greatest joys!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The art of an hour list is not for the faint of heart. It is a long and arduous process. I recall after I had drawn just slightly over 1000 images the frustration I felt at not being able to increase my audience or capture of the attention of anyone who would help me propagate my work. I recall being in quite a low artistic moment. I was driving down the road. I certainly heard the ding of my Instagram account notify me I had a private message. When I look at the message and read it’s me, George Lopez give me a call with his number attached to it. I like you was in disbelief. I question myself time and time in again whether this was a joke. When I finally got the courage to call, the other person on the line responded hi this is George. I was in disbelief about never to quit again. George what’s the instrumental whether he knows it or not in motivating me to continue my art. and for that I will be eternally grateful!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is making other smile. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting individuals across the world. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with individuals across the country, Mexico, Columbia, Germany, India, and Nepal connecting with others and making them smile is absolutely priceless.
