Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alfred Malone Jr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alfred, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Ever since I was a kid I always wanted the host my own show. Always love to watch skits from Benny hill, Johnny Carson and Arsenio Hall. So just a little background, I was always a shy individual coming up and was afraid of public speaking or speaking in front of a crowd that was not familiar to me. As kids me and my cousins used to plan out our own TV shows. In August of 2020 I was suddenly awakened around 3:00 4:00 in the morning and I just started writing podcast episodes and interviews that I wanted to do. With that inspiration and my drive and ambition to start my own network. That night led me to start Streetz Talk Podcast, Sunday’s Dinner, Streetz Talk Network Radio and Streets Talk Network.. I was also able incorporate my vision with my two incredible co-host Sister So Dope and The Doctor Barber. I will show Sunday’s dinner with airs on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. we don’t serve food but knowledge is always on the menu.
We talk about current events in Baltimore City, life situations and we also try to bring along solutions to the problems. If it’s financial literacy, activism or self-care. We didn’t even scratch the surface and we’re only just beginning…
Alfred, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Alfred (Alfie_D) Malone and sit back and let me tell you a little bit about myself. Who are you? Is one of the hardest questions you can ask a person. So who is Alfie_D? Some may say I’m adventurous, fun loving caring and all of the sweet pleasantries. But I would say I’m just a man with a dream that stands on his principles. Since I was a kid I always cared about other people’s well-being. So I guess that’s how you can say my love for my community began. I’ve been living in the Edmondson village area of West Baltimore for over 40 years and over the years I seen a major decline in our neighborhood. I watched the community that I love turn into a neighborhood. A community that once had so much potential to be downgraded just another area in the city. So in 2016 I started The #saveourplaygroundmovement campaign. There was a lack of playgrounds, common meeting areas for community members to interact and get to know each other, a lack of Green space and healthy food. So reaching out to Baltimore City trying to voice our needs in our community, my voice was going unheard and felt like it was falling on deaf ears. I thought about how can I get the word out… I called into a few local news stations. I actually spoke with the Washington Post a few years back about air conditions in Baltimore schools and playgrounds in Baltimore City. So it came to me I need to be a part of the narrative. So Streetz Talk Podcast snowballed into a whole network that’s helping me help others help their community and also our. You start with one block, one neighborhood, one city one state, one country…. You can’t help your people until you help yourself… And that’s what I did and that’s what I’m doing.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Well a few people that inspired me, motivated me and taught me through their books, video & speeches were:
Fred Hampton
Dr. Martin Luther King
Malcolm x
Kwame Tire (stokely Carmichael)
Walter P Carter
James Baldwin
The book mastery & The art of seduction by Robert Greene.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
So maybe 6 months into starting my new podcast I start having that feeling again that my voice was falling on deaf ears and imposter syndrome started to kick in. I started thinking is this what I need to be doing am I good enough to do this start second guessing myself. until one day I was outside washing my car and a person I haven’t seen in maybe 10-15 years pulled up on me and said he like what I was doing with my podcast and inside of the community. Few weeks later I get an inbox from a person that never inbox me before on Facebook and asked me why haven’t I posted any more podcasts. So from that day I haven’t stopped. People on social media get so caught up with worrying about the LIKES but it’s the people that’s watching your story is who you are inspiring the most.. inspiring one person is the same as inspiring a million
