We were lucky to catch up with Alexys Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexys , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Business will always have risks—it’s just part of the journey! One of my most significant risks was deciding to go full-time with my photography business. It was scary not knowing if it would sustain itself over the next year or if people would even want to work with me. As someone in a creative field, those doubts can sometimes feel overwhelming. But taking that leap, pushing myself to take the risk, and fully committing to this passion has been incredibly rewarding. Looking back, I’m so thankful I trusted myself and made that decision—I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. Now, these “risks” have become part of my daily interactions, and they’re what make my job so much more fulfilling.
Alexys , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who don’t know me, I’m Alexys, a wedding and travel photographer based in Southern California. My faith in Christ is central to who I am, and I truly believe that my business wouldn’t be where it is without His grace. I’m passionate about capturing the precious details of life’s most memorable moments, whether a wedding, an elopement, or a session with loved ones. I’m your girl if you’re looking for someone who will go above and beyond to create unforgettable, timeless memories.
I’m always ready to travel anywhere to ensure my clients receive the best experience possible. I’m laid-back, go with the flow, and love spontaneous conversations about life, travel, and making art. When we meet, I can promise you two things: laughter that will make your stomach hurt and stunning photo memories that we’ll create together.
My photography style blends intimate storytelling, focusing on natural, passionate moments. Reflecting a love for the beauty in human connection, I capture a warm, authentic atmosphere, using soft lighting and rich, earthy tones that bring out the depth of emotion between couples and families. It has a timeless quality, and each shot feels romantic and deeply personal.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is seeing how much my clients love and use my work. There’s something so special about scrolling through Instagram and seeing a past client’s profile picture, which I had taken. It’s even more fulfilling when I receive an inquiry from someone a previous client referred. That trust—knowing they loved their photos and the experience enough to recommend me to their friends and family—means everything. And when someone takes the time to leave a review, it not only makes my day but also helps my business grow in the long run!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’m a huge podcast girlie! If you see me with my AirPods in, I’m either listening to an educational podcast about scaling and managing my business or jamming out to Sabrina Carpenter, haha. One of my favorite podcasts is Oh Shoot by Cassidy Lynne. She’s an incredible photography coach, and I’m always picking up new strategies and ideas to implement in my business. There is never too much to learn, and I want to constantly up my business to be the best my clients can get!
