We were lucky to catch up with Alexx Herrera recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexx, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I’ll start off by saying my parents are my mom Francisca and my aunt Olivia who I consider my second parent. They’re cousins and best friends, and they both raised me. I am so happy to have the opportunity to share what they did right and how they impacted my life and career because they’re truly amazing. So much of what they modeled for me, the values they held, how hard they worked and how hard they loved has truly shaped me in all aspects of my life. In recent times I came to the realization that I had a unique experience being raised by two strong women. The way the showed support, cheered each other on, advocated for each other and had fun together definitely made that feel like second nature to me. After all, those are core pieces to the business I created. I’ll share a story about what lengths they went to be supportive and nurture my ideas. I have always loved learning about other cultures. As a child I absolutely loved going to Chinatown, Los Angeles and immersing myself in their beautiful culture and traditions such as Chinese New Year, and they would prioritize taking me. Then I wanted to take it a step further and wear a traditional two-piece Chinese outfit, pair it with beautifully designed bamboo umbrella and go to the mall to have photos taken of me. They didn’t stifle my desire to immerse myself in another culture at all, quite the opposite. That was not the only phase I went through as a child, but they still kept with the same level of support always. For that, I am eternally grateful.

Alexx, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Alexx Herrera and I started Virtually Anywhere Agency, a Virtual Assistant business based out of Los Angeles. For many years I was on a journey to find my purpose. I expected my purpose to come nicely packaged and wrapped, waiting for me to open it and have one clear answer. For readers who have found themselves on that pursuit, you know it’s not always that nice- or neat. What I did find through that experience was community. I realized that I loved to cheer people on on their journey, and find ways to be of service, and to encourage people to embrace their shine and embrace it unapologetically. With those being things I enjoyed, being inspired by all the legacy builders and creators around me, combined with a love of planning, efficiency, organization and support- the vision became clearer to me. We support women entrepreneurs who have created a soul-led business create ease, structure and efficiency by managing back-end tasks for them so they have the space and energy to pour into the work that lights them up. I believe my intuitive nature, creativity, and innovation sets me apart from others. I am most proud of being able to be of service to helping others expand in their businesses and naturally, their lives overall. I want community to know that we value integrity, strong communication, community and professionalism.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was a lesson I feel like a lot of us have had to work through. As a first-gen Latina I grew up thinking I had to not only be successful, but not make any mistakes. I believed I shouldn’t make mistakes and that I shouldn’t ask for help. I was incredibly hard on myself which in retrospect kept me from doing anything bold and requiring leaving my comfort zone. It was imperative that I unlearn the perfectionism to expand and go after what I wanted to be of service and serve community in the way I envisioned. Having grace with myself on my entrepreneurial journey has been a practice, but one I know is necessary and healthy.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with clients by engaging with them regularly and organically. They’re people I genuinely believe in and enjoy rooting for and see win. Social media has been great for that.
