Alright, Alexus thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

Hi! My name is Alexus Smiley-Jackson I am the owner of Poetic Picnics! I am originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota but moved to Orlando, Florida for a job opportunity! I LOVE the weather in Florida it’s very different from Minnesota! While I was in the midst of settling down in Florida the pandemic hit, which caused me to work from home. Not being able to interact with people on a day to day became the new norm that I was not fond of! Pre pandemic I enjoyed getting dressed up to check out new restaurants and sit on the patios and rooftops, whenever I got the chance. Now that I could no longer enjoy these things, my wheels started turning! How could I somehow create the luxury experience I was so in love with outdoors? That is how Poetic Picnic was created! I combined all the things I loved into one experience that could create memories that were everlasting! Poetic Picnic is no ordinary picnic in the park, it’s a luxury outdoor experience that everyone deserves to be apart of! With Poetic Picnic I was able to share my interest with so many others that wanted to still get an experience while being safe and taking the precautions to do so,

Being for Minneapolis, Minnesota there are not many opportunities such as this one! I want everyone reading to know anything is possible, any great ideas you have please always pursue them! You never know what can come out of them, everyone has a gift, find it, use it, and be the best at it, you are your only competition! I want to thank everyone who has supported me in booking a luxury experience, sharing a post, and even commenting! My business is nothing without my supporters and my clients, thank you for always acknowledging my work it is something truly near and dear to my heart! Relocating to Florida, I have had an experience of a lifetime, being able to truly do something I love has been a journey I’d trade for nothing. Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

Funding your business is tough! It’s probably the hardest part of having a business, you hope to have the opportunity to do what it is you do full time, quit your day job and indulge in your business! At first that’s usually not an option especially for me! My day job is what funds my business, once I created a budget, monthly expense report and built my clientele, I was able to save and fund my business and that was the best part!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I think being personable, being able to show up for your clients helps build the relationships and reputation you want! I like to really learn about the wants and needs of my clients, and how I can make their experience one to remember! I am in competition with myself and always show up to win, I want my clients to feel, touch, and see the work I put in to make their picnic everything they’ve imagined it to be if not more!
