We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexis Yero, M.S., CCC-SLP. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexis below.
Alexis , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
One of the most heartwarming parts of our work at Brain Gains Therapy Solutions is supporting children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), a neurologically based motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for the brain to plan and sequence the movements needed for speech. These children work incredibly hard for every sound, word, and phrase, and the progress they make is truly inspiring. Families often come to us after trying other therapy approaches that haven’t led to meaningful gains.
We meet each child where they are and create an individualized plan to support communication, whether through verbal speech, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), or both. AAC can range from low-tech picture boards to high-tech speech-generating devices. Many people assume AAC replaces spoken language, but that’s not the case. In fact, ASHA emphasizes that AAC can support speech development and reduce frustration by giving children a reliable way to express themselves as they continue building motor planning skills.
Our team is recognized by Apraxia Kids for specialized work in motor speech disorders, and we’re proud to offer therapy that is evidence-based, engaging, and tailored to the unique needs of each child and family. Whether a child begins forming words or communicates independently using AAC, we celebrate every gain. Watching a child move from frustration to connection, whatever that looks like, is a powerful reminder of why we do this work.
At Brain Gains Therapy Solutions, we’re committed to being a trusted partner to families and a standout resource in our community. We believe every child deserves a way to be heard, and we’re here to help make that happen.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Meet Alexis Yero, M.S., CCC-SLP
Private Practice Owner | Founder of Brain Gains Therapy Solutions, LLC
Hi guys! I’m Alexis Yero, M.S., CCC-SLP, also known as Ms. Alexis, to the families I serve. I combine evidence-based techniques with real-life communication goals to create therapy that actually works.
I’m a certified and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and the founder of Brain Gains Therapy Solutions, LLC- a purpose-driven private practice, grounded in the belief that therapy should be personalized, collaborative, and deeply meaningful for every individual and family we serve.
My background spans nearly every clinical setting including public and private schools, outpatient clinics, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health. Our approach today is deeply rooted in these clinical experiences.
What I’m most passionate about is helping people communicate more confidently and effectively, especially those navigating complex speech challenges. I have a particular interest in motor speech disorders, and am proud to be a recognized provider through Apraxia Kids. Supporting children with childhood apraxia of speech is not just a clinical focus for me, it is one of the most rewarding and humbling parts of my work.
At Brain Gains, we offer a wide range of services for children and adults across the lifespan, including support for speech and language development, early literacy, AAC, feeding, and oral motor needs, pragmatic language, executive functioning, cognitive-communication, voice and swallowing disorders, and more. We support individuals with Autism, Apraxia, Dyslexia, Aphasia, Stuttering, Selective Mutism, and Traumatic Brain Injuries, through both in-person and teletherapy.
Meaningful connection is at the heart of every single session. We help kids move from frustration to connection by giving them reliable tools and strategies to communicate. Whether a child is working toward verbal speech, using AAC, or blending both, we focus on building strong, functional communication skills that allow them to participate, express themselves, and advocate for their needs. Every child communicates in their own way, and we’re here to support that journey with respect, creativity, and care.
One thing that sets us apart is our strong belief in empowering families. Therapy is most effective when caregivers feel equipped, informed, and supported. We partner closely with families to create sustainable growth in and beyond the therapy room.
Our providers care deeply. We show up fully. And we do this work because we believe in lasting, life-changing growth. Whether it’s a toddler saying their first words, a teenager navigating friendships, or a stroke survivor relearning to communicate, we’re here for it- with curiosity, collaboration, and commitment. We believe in celebrating every step forward, because every gain counts.
My career path has also opened the door to serving as a Special Education Advocate, a role I’ve grown into through years of experience on both sides of the IEP table. I’m passionate about educating families on their legal rights, guiding them through the special education process, and partnering with schools to develop meaningful plans and accommodations for students with unique learning styles. I work to bridge gaps in understanding and communication so that students with unique learning needs receive the support they deserve, and so families feel informed, empowered, and heard.
In addition, we proudly offer nationwide school contracting services, supporting public, charter, and private schools with flexible, high-quality speech language therapy. One of our biggest passions is educating schools and administrators on how teletherapy can be an incredibly effective tool, not just for student outcomes, but also for clinician satisfaction, consistency, and accessibility. We’re currently accepting new school contracts, and we’re excited to help more districts discover the power of this flexible model.
We love learning! In both 2020 and 2023, I received ASHA’s Award for Continuing Education (ACE), a recognition of my ongoing commitment to deepening my expertise through MORE than 70 hours of continuing education each cycle (3 years). As the evidence in our field evolves, so do we. We stay up to date with the latest research and continuously adapt our therapy approaches to reflect the most current, effective practices.
If you’re looking for therapy that’s grounded in evidence and tailored to your unique needs, we’re here when you’re ready.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that there’s only one “right” way to be a therapist, and that questioning long-standing norms meant you weren’t committed to the work.
Early in my career, I worked under leadership that equated resilience with self-denial. I vividly remember losing my grandmother and being denied time off. When I asked why, I was told it was to prepare me for the real world- that in our field, you don’t get to step away, even when life happens.
That moment didn’t harden me. It clarified things. How can we ask our clients to set boundaries and care for their mental health if we don’t model those same values ourselves? As therapists, we have to practice what we preach.
While this wasn’t the only reason I founded Brain Gains Therapy Solutions, LLC, it was a defining one. It pushed me to create a culture where innovation, sustainability, and well-being are not just supported, they are expected.
I’m proud to stand alongside fellow therapy professionals and entrepreneurs who are redefining what it means to do this work. We lead with full hearts, clear values, and practices rooted in both clinical excellence and human compassion. I truly believe our field is evolving, and I’m grateful to be part of a generation of therapists leading that shift, where creativity, wellness, and quality care can coexist.
This isn’t just a lesson I unlearned. It’s one that continues to shape how I show up for others, and for myself.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I’d choose this career path a hundred times over.
One of the things I value most about this work is how meaningful it is. Being a speech-language pathologist is incredibly rewarding. I get to help children find their voices-sometimes quite literally. I teach kids to read, support them in saying their first words, guide them through social interactions, and lead therapy sessions filled with curiosity, connection, laughter, and growth. I get to support children as they learn to connect and communicate in ways that feel right for them, while making steady progress that honors their individual strengths and needs.
As speech-language pathologists, we support individuals and families across ages, settings, and communication needs. That may look like a toddler saying “mama” for the first time, a child with dyslexia reading aloud with confidence, a teenager navigating friendships more easily, or a young adult preparing for a job interview.
It can also include therapy for speech sound disorders, language delays, stuttering, social communication challenges, feeding and swallowing disorders, cognitive-communication impairments, and voice or resonance issues. We support individuals using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and collaborate across settings to help our patients meet a wide range of needs. This is by no means an exhaustive list; the scope of speech-language pathology is broad, and the work is always individualized to each person’s goals and circumstances.
I help children build confidence, understand their unique strengths, and learn to advocate for themselves. Just as importantly, I empower families by helping them understand their child’s needs, navigate challenges, and find calm and clarity in situations that may have once felt overwhelming.
It’s a privilege to be trusted as part of a patient’s therapy team. Collaboration is at the heart of what I do—working closely with caregivers, educators, and other professionals to support the whole child.
The progress we make may start in the therapy room, but the ripple effects often reach every corner of a child’s life. Being part of that journey is not something I take lightly, and it’s why I would choose this path again without hesitation.
