We recently connected with Alexis Wise and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I often get asked how I came up the idea for Double Stitched. The inspiration behind my business came from a realization that there is a limited representation and availability of plus-size crochet options.
I have always been passionate about the need for size inclusivity. As a plus-sized woman, throughout my own journey, I have noticed how limited the plus-size options are in fashion in general. I fell in love with crocheting, and I wanted to share my creations with everyone. When I started to crochet fashion pieces, the disparity in the market when it came to tops catering to larger sizes was also apparent in the crochet fashion world. There was a need for options that were both stylish and designed to embrace and celebrate the beauty of diverse body types.
Through Double Stitched, I truly hope to challenge those boundaries and redefine the concept of fashion inclusivity. By providing different size options, I hope to create a space where people feel inspired, represented, seen, and beautiful.

Alexis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! I am Alexis, a passionate crocheter and founder of my boutique crochet business, Double Stitched. From a young age, I was introduced to crochet by my fifth-grade after-school teacher, who taught me how to create a starting chain. Little did I know that this initial experience would ignite a lifelong love for crochet.
When the quarantine of 2020 hit, I found solace and inspiration in picking up my crochet hook once again. Every day, I was so excited to see what I could make and what new stitch I could learn. Determined to expand my skills, I turned to YouTube, immersing myself in the world of crochet and teaching myself more complex stitches. With each stitch, I discovered not only the joy of creating beautiful pieces but also the limitless possibilities that crochet offers.
Driven by my passion and the desire to share my craft with others, I established my crochet business, Double Stitched. Through my brand, I offer a diverse range of creations, including home decor, accessories, and stylish tops. I envision my business as a boutique, where I strive to provide as many options as possible to cater to different tastes and preferences.
Fashion is one of my primary focuses, and I am committed to offering size-inclusive pieces that can be enjoyed by individuals of all body types. It is my belief that everyone deserves to feel confident and express their personal style, regardless of their size. By designing and creating garments that are inclusive and flattering, I aim to make fashion accessible and empowering for all.
As my journey in crochet continues, I am excited to embark on a new venture: making plushies and continuing to expand the availability of sizes and fashion. I am always dedicated to explore new avenues and constantly evolve my craft.
Through my business and brand, I aspire to inspire others to discover the joy of crochet and embrace their creativity and individuality. I am deeply committed to providing high-quality, handmade pieces that are crafted with love and attention to detail. It is my hope that each item I create brings beauty and inspiration to those who cherish them.
Thank you for joining me on this crochet adventure, and I look forward to sharing my creations with you as I continue to grow and innovate within the world of crochet and beyond.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sell on my site using Squarespace. I chose it because I am an e-commerce store, and I have been able to design my own site. The con is that I wish there were more integrations for it.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Instagram has been my best source of new clients. I have been able to not only post on my profile, but the ability to share that same post on my personal page, and the re-share it many times as I want has been extremely beneficial. Hashtags have brought many people to my Instagram page and to my site.
