We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexis Varady. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexis below.
Alexis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
When graduating from chiropractic school, a lot of graduates choose to take a job working at an existing clinic rather than attempting to open their own. Upon graduating myself, I had a decision to make—do I take the risk of opening on my own or work under someone else and learn from them while making money right off the bat? Ultimately, the decision wasn’t mine so I put it in God’s hands. After a lot of prayer, I felt led to do this on my own.
My style of chiropractic is quite different and is something that isn’t offered in most places so moving to rural Kentucky, I knew that opening on my own could be a mistake if my style wasn’t well received by the population. Looking back now, 3 years into my own practice, I wouldn’t change my path for anything. I now own an incredibly successful practice with 2 doctors and we are changing lives daily, spreading the word of God through our clinic, and thoroughly enjoying every day of practice.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Doctor of Chiropractic, Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Breastfeeding Counselor, Perinatal Nutrition Educator, and Childbirth Educator. I own Unbridled Spirit Healing Center where I am the pediatric and perinatal chiropractor alongside my husband who is the chiropractor for adult care and severe cases. I decided to be a chiropractor because I wanted to help people get out of pain without drugs or surgery, but upon attending Sherman College of Chiropractic, I was taught how much greater the benefits of chiropractic extend beyond pain. Our practice is focused on relieving interference to the nervous system. Your nervous system controls every function of your body, the way you think and feel, and the way you perceive the outside world. Any interference in this system can affect you physically, mentally, and emotionally. We find that when we can remove the interference, true healing happens.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
As most of us are, I was led to believe that healing happens from the outside in. There is always a lotion, potion, or motion to help you heal from any ailment. The lesson I learned was that healing happens from the inside out. We are self healing organisms and when given the proper fuel, we can heal from anything. When I unlearned the “norm” and learned to trust my body, I truly became healthy and learned how to help others feel what true health feels like.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back in time and make the decision of what to do with my life again, I would be exactly where I am now. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without this profession. Before entering this profession, I was anxious, overweight with body dysmorphia, struggled with focus, could eat anything without feeling sick, and many other ailments. Chiropractic over time taught me how to listen to my body and heal. It is my purest joy to help others discover the healing potentially within them.
