Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexis Sullivan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage all social media from posting to responding to DMs, and comments. I’m the future I hope to hire someone because it is a lot of work for one person to handle.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Alexis Sullivan most people call me Lex, I’m 24 years old and I also a graduate student working on my MBA. I’m a home based baker in Laurel, Maryland that specializes in cakes, cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries and many other treats. I got into my industry because of the love that I have had for baking since I was a little girl. And my business really took off once Covid first came around, since we were home 24/7 I was able to focus on baking and trying out new desserts. Once I made my instagram account and started posting on there it took off, I began to have customers reach out and want to place orders with me. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t limit myself to one thing. On my website or social pages you see that I offer a variety of things or that I’m always trying something new. What also sets me apart is the way that handle my business. What I’m most proud of is they way that I continue to improve and get better with every order. And I’m also proud that I could bring smiles and people ideas to life in food. What I want potential clients/ followers to know is that when you make a purchase with us your getting something that is skilled, open to try new things, professional and always looking to build relationships so that you as a consumer would want to come back and continue to support me along my journey.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn is that people will have your best interest. I had to learn that people will not always have your best interest even if it’s your family and friends.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I build my audience by always posting and staying active on social media. On instagram they have something called Reels, when I first started making them I didn’t know what I was doing now I’m more familiar and know how to edit better. This is very helpful because I can reach a larger audience in a matter of seconds. Advice that I have for people wanting to build a social media presence is stay active on social media reach out to people or partner with them so they can repost you stuff.
