Alexis Solomon & Taylor Price, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?

Five years ago we decided to start our own design firm; however, we wanted to work in a new and different way. We both loved the design process, helping people problem-solve, and creating beautiful spaces our clients love. We decided to concentrate on those aspects of design. We created a model where we would consult, advise, design, and then hand off the project with detailed instructions for our clients to execute. Our Design Packages were born!

It felt like a big risk. We had no idea if our clients would like this new approach but we quickly realized it was exactly what many people were looking for. Our clients wanted our expertise and felt comfortable managing the project. It has worked beautifully. Our clients love to get all our expert advice and design services without any extras or hidden fees.

Over the last five years we’ve developed our Design Packages to be as complete and detailed as possible. We try to answer every question before it is asked. Our goal is not only to offer our clients beautiful design, but also to give them all of the information they need to execute with confidence.

It is so rewarding to hear from clients who have taken our designs and made them a reality. There is no better feeling than when our client says, “I love it!”. Five years ago, we felt nervous and excited to try something new. Today we have hundreds of happy clients and transformed spaces. We are so grateful we decided to try something new!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

Alexis Taylor Interiors is an interior design firm serving the Atlanta, Georgia area. We offer a selection of Design Packages for both furnishings and renovations. Our services include furniture selection, space planning, fixtures & finishes selection, and general consulting. We create detailed design plans that have everything our clients need to then take the reins and execute. We offer up-front, flat-rate pricing so that our clients get the design guidance they need without costly surprises. Our services help our clients design and renovate with confidence!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Like many businesses, we had to pivot during Covid. Before quarantine, we offered an in-home appointment with clients to present their packages. As the world was shutting down, we quickly purchased a Zoom subscription so we could present and share our work with our clients. Now we do all of our presentations on Zoom. We wish we would have done it that way from the start!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

The book, Profit First by Mike Michalowicz, has been extremely helpful for us. Books about accounting aren’t typically very interesting but this one was actually fun to read! The strategy is very simple and straightforward. It has not only helped us keep organized financially, it’s been very helpful in managing appropriate operating expenses. It also allows us to easily analyze financial documents and information. It’s a great book for anyone with a small business!
