We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexis Rose. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexis below.
Alexis , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I launched my home based floral studio at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. I had been a floral designer in another shop since I was a teenager and when the pandemic hit that business closed its doors. I needed a way to keep working while also maintaining safety for my family, so I started by doing micro-weddings and no-contact deliveries from my home.
In 2021 we moved to Trenton Ontario and I posted in a local wedding group on Facebook that I was offering floral design services. I booked over 25 weddings in a few weeks for the 2022 season.
From that point I worked out of the basement of our house on weddings and events. Eventually expanding into doing workshops and local outdoor markets.
In 2024 I had grown out of my house as far as workspace goes, and we had just had our second child so I knew it was time to expand.
I found a space in August 2024 and had the doors open for November 1st of that same year.
It was the biggest risk I’d taken for my business up until that point, but I had taken the time to build local clientele that would follow and support me in the new space.
Having the extra overhead was difficult to manage in the first year because it was an expense that I hadn’t had in the years prior outside of my regular household maintenance.
Once we launched our website for daily sales revenue and delivery services in March of 2025 things really took off.
It was scary, but seeing the gradual growth over the last 12 months has made it worth it.
I get to share my designs and my work with people every day who truly appreciate my craft.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started as a floral designer in a shop local to Beaverton, Ontario when I was 16 years old. I learned every aspect of the industry and the concepts of floral design in an apprenticeship through that shop and by attending some specialized courses online and in partnership with a school of floral design in Toronto Ontario.
When 2020 and the pandemic came along that shop closed its doors. I chose to continue my design work out of my apartment doing micro-weddings and no-contact deliveries.
In 2021 my husband was posted to CFB Trenton and we moved there with our oldest child and I continued to work out of our house.
In 2024 I opened a brick and mortar flower shop because of the success and growth I had after 3 years of weddings, workshops, vendor markets, and other community partnerships.
Now in 2025 I still do all of those things. However, I’m also able to offer daily sales and deliveries through my website, over the phone, or in person at the shop.
I have been very Lucky to make flowers my career. I work in all floral mediums (fresh, dried, and faux) and have done several large scale installations in local businesses around Quinte West and the surrounding areas.
What I feel sets me apart from other designers is that I’m always going to go the extra mile for quality and value for the money you put into your orders. As well as constantly looking toward new industry trends to try and keep my designs current with what my clients want to see in their homes.
I am a one woman show when it comes to the day-to-day operations of this business. I do the ordering, processing of the flowers, designing, and delivering. Everything from beginning to end is in my power to give you a positive experience and that’s something I strive for with each and every piece I create.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My social media journey started out as a simple online portfolio of some of the work I had done as a florist. I wanted a way to showcase my work to future clients and Instagram and Facebook was an easy way to do that.
To this day you can go to @designsbyalexisrose on Instagram or Facebook and see some of my cringey old designs if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the feed haha.
Socials have become something of a passion for me. I really love taking photos or videos of my work and my design process for clients and followers to enjoy.
We’re currently sitting at just over 4000 followers on Instagram and though that may not seem like a lot when compared to influencer numbers but it is a community I have curated over 5 years building the page. These are people who consistently share, participate, and financially support my business and genuinely look forward to new content and events that I have ongoing.
When it comes to socials I find that “going viral” can actually hurt the growth and direct sales for some businesses. If I went viral tomorrow it doesn’t mean I’ll suddenly have those thousands of people inside my shop or placing orders.
The slow growth I’ve shown over the years has definitely curated a lot of very meaningful and deeply positive relationships with my loyal client base.
I highly recommend focussing on the quality of your content and the message behind it over getting as many views as possible.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I’m a big proponent of “Community over Competition”. I’ve spent the last few years getting to know other business owners in my community and collaborating with them on workshops and events. When we’ve partnered we’ve also shared those collaborative efforts on socials and in doing so have brought their clients over to me and vice versa.
I’ve loved getting to make new small business friends while also collectively building our community presence online and in person.
