We recently connected with Alexis Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
One risk that I have always been down to take is quitting my job and trying out a business idea! Don’t get me wrong, I definitely plan everything out; I made sure all my bills are paid up and that I have the resources and clients I need for my new business before quitting.
The philosophy that has been passed down to me is, “Why sit and make other rich, when you can make yourself rich?” I just don’t want to be at a place I am usually forcing myself to be happy at, when I could truly be happy trying to make myself even more successful.
Alexis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’d describe myself as a digital media Socialite. I love to host events, do photography gigs and design websites! I also enjoy media correspondence; it’s always fun, and the opportunity to network while doing all these things is amazing! I am most proud of is the songwriting that I do!
One thing I would love future clients and readers alike to know is that versatility and faith will get you very far! Those two, along with other attributes, such as patience, have gotten me the clients I desire and opportunities I would have never dreamed of!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson that I had to unlearn and relearn, that I would recommend everyone do, is about your personal relationship with God. I used to think God was just dancing or shouting at church; I didn’t know the significance of reading the Bible. I didn’t know how cool the Bible was! It’s like a Tyler Perry play, no cap!
I grew up in church, but like some people, I experienced some things that I could have let turn me off from going back to church or believing in God. How could people like the pastor’s kids, treat me wrong? took my relationship with God serious in spurts of my life until I turned 22. By going through different situations and reading the Bible, I learned what it was really like for God to be my father, friend, redeemer and so much more!
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My side hustle was actually something that I’ve been doing since I was a kid! I would have little photography gifs here and there, and wanted to really pursue it full time! I believe that if I had a few key resources, I would have definitely soared my first time turning this side hustle into my main business.
How it came to be what it is today, is basically just always staying ready! I bring my camera everywhere, and you never know who needs pictures! There have been times where I take pictures without asking, and it’s let to give other opportunities! One of my key milestones was taking photos for Rick Ross at the Legends of the Streetz Tour in BIRMINGHAM AND Memphis. It was the greatest because he gave me amazing advice and even brought me on stage to say it again in front of the entire crowd. I could never imagine that would have happened and want to thank God and Rap Plug for the opportunity!
