We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexis Huerta. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexis below.
Alexis, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I started off as a dancer (at the age of 5 til 18) and a dance instructor traveled to china on a two month dancing tour and when I came back to the states I got pregnant with my first child and I was tired of working in a clothing store not bringing much home . So I took a risk and went to paul Mitchell the school and became a hair and makeup artist. I went to school 6 years ago and 6 years later I still love doing hair and make up ! The beauty industry was such a great risk for me to jump into and I’m so Glad I am apart of it .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into this industry in the beginning because of my children.. and never wanting to have to rely on anyone but myself! And upon finishing school I found my nitch with fantasy color . So making peoples hair vibrant vivid fantasy colors . As the years have gone by I had learned many methods of extentions tape ins , hand tied and even k-tips, I even dived into the makeup portion of the beauty industry. However being able to create these bright vibrant vivid colors it has also taught me how to Color correct, work with blondes because to get a vivid color you have to sometimes push hair to its limits creating such beautiful blonde canvas. But man do i love it ! I am mostly proud that when my clients come to me with a vision we can come together and create it no matter if it is something for hair or a creative makeup look classy or a event we are getting my clients ready for !
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being able to be creative is the fact that I get to make my clients feel so good about themselves and look so good ! My clients tell me how much better they feel after leaving my chair and how much they feel More like themselves after being with me for a little while .
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal for my business is to have a safe place for my clients to come in be themselves achieve something they are wanting to try with there hair and make up and maybe it be even something so far out there creative and we just go for it, because I feel we can push the limits on creativity as far as you can go with your clients and your self . Sometimes my clients have the best ideas we get to bring to life .
